Waxing your tractor !

I waxed twice over the summer with Turtle Wax liquid. Then I use Armour All paint protectant after every couple of washes. Makes stuff slide right off and I am able to blow it clean most of the time. I did this for years with my JD 322 and it served us well.

i use turtle wax ICE. easy to use, just spray on lightly and wipe off dry. can use on metal and plastics (no white residue on plastic.) gives nice shine, but more importantly protects against sun and rain. sheds water dropplets really well. i will put it on the equipment about twice a year, mainly just before winter and once through the summer. i only do the top, easy to get areas like hood, fenders and such. never tire rims or axels because they just get dirty again quick. i will also use an oily rag or spray oil to protect other areas hard to get to, like frame/underneath. it may collect dust, but it will never rust and rust is what will ruin things. i mainly do it to "protect my investment" and make it last as long as possible. when i buy something like equipment, vehicle i try to keep it as long as possible. i am not one to trade it in just to get the new thing that is out there. glad to hear about others waxing/preserving their equipment like this. i thought i was the only one who would "wax a tractor".

I have found the best wax to use on John Deere PLASTIC is Pledge wax. The same the wife uses on furniture. The Pledge makes the wifes Gator which has a lot of plastic really shine. Automotive waxes will scratch the plastic on John Deeres. (Found this out by testing an area on the Gator) Old John Deeres with metal fenders and hoods like automotive polish and waxes.

Yes, i regularly wash and wax it. I did the same with my last 14yo tractor, and it still looked great the day i sold it. Just cause you think of it as a tool...why let it look like a piece of crap.???

I clean my tools too.:p

Last year, I traded in my 1982 Yanmar (which I bought as a "demo" way back when) YM276D, 27hp 4wd CUT on a new JD2520. All I ever did to that old Yanmar was to change the oil and filters regularly, and thats about it. All the time I had it, it was kept in my garage, and yes, I did also wash and wax it usually once or twice a year. For the most part, when I traded her in, she looked pretty much just as nice as the day I got it.

The best part, and I like to think part of the reason for it was that I kept it looking clean, was that I got roughly $500 more than I paid for it on the trade. And NO, the selling price of the new one wasn't inflated to make it look like I was getting that amount.

A little elbow grease, soap, water and wax in my opinion goes a long way in helping your unit retain it's value.

Every tractor I have ever owned has been used except for 1. One of the first things I look for is unwiped wax some where on the tractor lik in a corner or a crevice. I figure if the person cared enough to keep it waxed then they probably cared enough to maintain the rest of it. I have always kept my equipment waxed and usually get good trade in prices for them. To me its just part of the maintaince. You change the oil and filters to maintain the engine life. You wash and wax to maintain the paint life.

I wash both of my tractors after every use. Wax as well on occasion. I treat them as my vehicles and they show it. My Ford 1710 built in 84 looks fantastic for almost 30 years old. I plan to keep my 2520 looking great for the next 30 years. I don't put my tools away dirty either, though I may not wax them, I always wipe them clean before they get put away. With the big investment in my tools of all types and sizes, I need to keep them as nice as I can. I do this as well for my ATV',s Street bikes and vehicles.

I have been known to wax my tractor on occasion. Also, I clean the tires and use Armour-all to blacken them. I just think it makes me look cool driving around the property on a clean and detailed tractor. I thought everybody did this:confused:.
