We Need Generic Forums

Harv,

I'd like to make a slight change/addition to your updated "New Messages Posted Since The Last Time I Asked For New Messages" to be "New Messages Posted Since The Last Time I Asked For New Messages That I Have Not Yet Read Through Other Ways of Viewing". (Like MarkC, I believe the period looks better outside the quotation marks...)

While I am wishing I would like to be able to have my computer at home and at work be synchronized so that if I read a message at work it is flagged "as read" on the computer at home. My guess is that currently this info about what has been read is stored in cookies?

Ah, punctuation. Finally, a subject I know something about! (Unlike my ignorance about ending a sentence with a preposition.) Contrary to what I learned in grade school, I have always believed that nothing, including punctuation, belongs between quotation marks unless that punctuation is in the quoted material. Many learned writers agree. I am honored to be in such rare, scholarly company.

(Now we can go back to making believe we know something about computers and tractors.)

My home and work computers are already syncronized. Wonder why others are not?

Actually, all the information about the last message you read/replied to/edited is stored in the database. The Database is getting up there in size, too.

But for the most part, everything SHOULD be syncronized between any computer you use, so long as you use the same username on them both.

The only thing that won't be syncronized is if you log off at work, you can still be logged on at home.

Muhammad,

A new member, Hook, just posted the usual what-should-I-buy question. He posted identical questions in all three color forums. He did this, obviously, so he could get feedback from all three color owners, thinking that perhaps Orange owners only hang around the Orange Buying forum, etc.

I offer this as another important example of why we need generic forums. New members are naturally confused about where to post a general question.

You needn't respond again, but I'm going to keep offering evidence when I think it's relevant. In the meantime, I know, I know, OVERRULED.

We're considering the options but I can't say that a change will or will nto be made just yet...
