We 4 or 5 string capable units. Only ones with guards is the steel wood cutter and when a string bump head is on. They do reduce the green slim debris thrown on you. When done, a bench brush works well to help remove debris from your pants. The pants we use are double fronted and have knee protection installed. 155 string will shot gravel far and take the glass out of your truck. Ask my spouse about that. :ROFLMAO:

This blade has been amazingly effective at clearing brush and small saplings on my property. This blade combined with my Stihl trimmer are responsible for clearing a significant amount of area on my property. I’ve probably purchased about 7 of these blades in the past 5 years. My neighbor recently purchased and now uses this blade to clear areas of his property too. I highly recommend it.

Just like another poster mentioned, keep anything you love far away from your work area. This blade sends rocks and debris at lightning speed anywhere and everywhere.

I didn't think anybody would have a more aggressive weed whacker head than I have. But the eye bolts and blades beat mine - hands down.

I have a head that had three, free swinging, nylon blades. I took one new nylon blade to the local welding shop. They made exact copies - out of carbon steel. It will shred anything that I can reach with the whacker.

The problem with steel heads is there small cutting radius. Cut they do but takes forever to cut x amount. Our strings cutting radius is much larger and isn't bothering by rocks or fences.

I have one I bought 20 years ago that has an aluminum body and three swinging steel blades. The company went out of business because people got injured and sued. I don't know if it was from thrown debris or blades. I don't use it any more.

I now keep the full guard on the trimmers, especially the 240. It can throw stuff pretty hard. I also wear shin guards. I've used the small cutaway guards and while they let you get closer they also spray the operator with a lot of plant parts, sticks and rocks. It's a little harder to get the full guard to do everything I want but the protection is worth it to me.

Yep, I prefer string heads for the same reason.

What is a 240?

As an aside there are periods when it is forbidden to use anything spark generating such as a ferris blade… at least here.

This pretty much late season cutting to nylon blades and line.

Same here in my part of CA once it dries out. If it's not forbidden it's really dumb. Either way I'm not doing it.

I think the same is true in most of the west where there are dry summers and fire danger.
