At that weight I assume its 4x4???

Thats only ~600lbs lighter than mine. But it is about the heaviest combo you can get in a dodge 3500. Its a 2005 DRW, quad-cab, long bed, 4x4, and cummins. 11,200 GVWR. The DRW really adds ALOT to the hauling capability.

empty weight is ~8000lbs. Just depends on how much junk I have in the back seats. Just last week I hauled a load of stone. Dad and brother were in the cab with me. (300lbs) Tare was ~8400lbs. Load going out was ~11,100. Right on leagal capacity. Truck with DRW's handled the ~2700lb load like it wasnt there:D

kicker was on the way to the quarry, we crossed a 4T limit bridge. I knw we werent going back that way. I told dad we were probabally over already (before we got loaded). Sure enough we were:confused2:

I have to ask though, why did you decide on the short box??? After my last SB truck, I said I would never do it again. Just cant haul much of nothing back there.

Heck, my 2006 F-350 Diesel 4x4 has 11,500# GVWR and weighs 7,600# with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel so it has a legal 3,900# payload and handles it just fine.

My post states that I have not weighed it, nor am I within 100 miles of a truck scale. I don't know how else to say it.

Joe

Any truck stop, grain elevator, quarry, gravel pit, ect will have a scale.

Keep in mind the curb weights given are typically completely empty, no fluids, no passengers, no battery, no options, etc... to make the payload look better. Your truck with gas and extras like the first one posted is probably right about the same.

My 03 RAM 1500 quad cab short bed 4x4 HEMI was 5820lbs with half a tank of gas.

That is right with my 07 Nissan Titan 4x4 short bed extend cab. Its 5,880# with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel.

I'm just correcting you in a friendly way before someone does it rudely, but i'm sure you meant to say "....has 11,500# GVWR and weighs 7,600# with me......" Just thought I'd clarify for you.

Trucks don't carry weight determined by the vehicle manufactures GVWR. I don't know of any state thats uses the trucks GVWR to determine its gross weight. Gross weight is the sum of the trucks axle ratings.

However towing a trailer adds little if any weight on the trucks front axle so haulers simply use the trucks RAWR. Most F250/2500 trucks have a 6000-6200 RAWR.

I carry a certified axle weight ticket in all three of my trucks. I have a '03 2500 Dodge/Cummins NV5600 quad cab short bed with a 2820 unladin rear axle weight and a 4120 lb front axle weight. No occupants. The truck has a 6000 RAWR which leaves 3180 for a max rear axle payload.

Same with my '05 DRW Dodge with it 9350 RAWR. This trucks rear axle weight is 3480 lbs which leaves a 5800 lb payload.

Using the trucks GVWR is fine and is certainly legal to do but I bought a truck to haul so I'll use the GAWRs from the trucks certification placard on the door post. Its legal also.

Let's see... No truck stops within 100 mile radius; all the gravel pits are primitive holes in the ground w/ no equipment to speak of; there might be a quarry nearby, but it's not full time. However, dkhntr04 did remind me of a local grain elevator I forgot about in a town of less than 200 people. I'll have to call around and see if it's even manned this time of year.

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I dont think that is correct.

In the case of your 03, you are saying the truck weighs ~6900lbs but due to the axle ratings you would be leagal @ a total weight of over 10k:confused2: on a 2500:confused2:

And the GVWR is NOT the sum of the axle ratings. If you add up the axle ratings, the GVWR is always LESS than the sum of the GAWR.

The way I understand it...You cannot go over the GVWR in whole, and cannot exceed either axle rating either (IE: load distribution).

Yep you are right Kyle. I will fix it. Thanks.

Anyway, I love the high GVWR's available on the Fords.

I had an 2002 Dodge Ram, Quad cab slt, 4x4, 6.5 bed, cummins, Automatic with a cross over aluminum tool box (with not a lot in it).. With me in it (200 lbs), and full tank of fuel, it weight 6,940-ish

at that time I believe the gross was 8,800..

You can go over the GVWR. You may need to change tires, but typically all you have to do is pay the DMV more $$ for the higher tag and go on your merry way.

Google up and see.
