Weighed my truck today.

I use the same truck for work except it is an 05. I always have a60 gallons of diesel in the tank in the bed of the truck while pulling a 20 ft trailer and 6 ton payload. Most of the time there is at least 2000 pounds sitting on the rear axle. This truck is not even a dually. You worried tour gonna break something? My work truck has 90 thousand hard miles on it and still has never been in for any drivetrain or suspension issues. Runs like a champ and overloaded many times a week since the boss bought it new

another place to get weighed is a scrap yard. around here there have been tons of them pop up in the last five years since everyone and their brother has finally started cleaning all the abandoned metal from the edges of their property.

as far as weights go, i've had my truck on at least three different sets of scales in my area hauling scrap metal. it's a 2006 gm 2500 crew 4x4 with a 6.5 foot bed. i've come in at 6200-6400 lbs with me in the cab and varying fuel levels. of course, that is with a gas engine and not a diesel. that puts my payload capability at nearly 2000 lbs (9200 gvw). i can see where a diesel is getting too close to the limit on payload, but i think with gas it's reasonable.

i want to say my 2001 gm 3500 dump (diesel) 4x4 came in at 8600-8800 lbs, but i can't remember for certain.

My 07 Ram 2500 with 6.7 Cummins Quad Cab shortbox weighs 7630 with me in it and 3/4 tank. I also have a Warn winch, Mile Marker brush guard, and a turnover ball.

If I need more capacity I will just get air bags. The only difference between the 2500 and the 3500 is the overload spring. Air bags will fix that. So that would effectively give me up to 1200 lbs more carrying capacity. Don't need to right now. Someday maybe.

Airbags are nice about making you "think" you can haul more. In reality, the axles still endure the same amount of weight. And at the end of the day, the GVWR is what will get you ticketed or not, regardless of whatever mods you have done.

Yep, the bust them all the time around here. I see trailers dropped at the weight station at the Indiana Ohio line.

His truck weighing about 7,600# is what I have found also for most Ford and Dodge late model diesel SRW trucks. My F-350 SRW 4x4 is 7,600# with me in it and 3/4 tank also.

Yep, 7600 seems to be the norm for 3/4-tons and SRW. I guess the DRW adds about 400 or so since I am ~8000-8100. Also have a GN turnover, dont know how much that adds.

I was under the impression that axle ratings and tire ratings are the chief concern of enforcement officers.

Washington (my state) allows modified vehicles to exceed gvwr so long as tire and axle regulations are not broken.

My rear axle is rated for 6k and my tires are each rated at 3200. My front axle is rated for 5200 from what I recall.

Perhaps somebody can reference the RCW or WAC that states vehicles exceeding gvwr are automatically in violation. I would really appreciate it. I can't find any such statute.

There are no states that can issue a over weight ticket for being over the truck manufacturers GVWR. If there is please post a link to the enforcable state statute.

Example.... PA has one of the oldest size and weght statutes in the nation which reads;

(a) General rule.--No vehicle or combination driven upon a

(c) Gross weight.--No vehicle or combination shall be driven
with a gross weight in excess of the sum of the allowable axle
weights as set forth in this section, nor shall any vehicle or
combination be driven with a gross weight in excess of the sum
of the manufacturer's rated axle capacities." (end of quote)

The truck manufacturers GVWR can be used for declaring a commercial haulers GCW (gross combined weight such as a trucks 11500 GVWR plus a GN trailers 18000 GVWR = 29500 GCW.

Here they go by what your tires max load are,and what your tagged for. The trucks GVWR I dont think is even questioned.At the DMV when you buy tags they ask how much weight you want to carry,just pay for it!
