Welded grab hooks

When Mig welding I have a personal policy of running as hot as I can handle it. Out of the hundreds of welding tests I've taken,

Now, I don't know what a "hobbyist" weldor like yourself would be doing taking welding tests!

Umm, umm, umm, well if you don't ever challenge yourself you'll never learn. Yeah, that's it!:D

What is it that makes the bead so smooth like that? You can't see any ripples at all!
I don't really know, maybe the hotter gas, or the amount of volts required to hit spray transfer. :confused3:

Our 210 has a nice chart when you flip up side panel to change out wire spools, will give you a good general idea, common sense from there.
My 180 does too-and I use it-but like I said no consistency- I guess practice makes perfect.

Here is what I did fo the middle. I also added some 2x1/2 to outside edge of bucket. Hopefully it will help keep it straight.
Hey shield arc, I added a vertical up for you to critique! I use to be a lot better when I burned wire for a living!

Well I'm no expert, but it looks a little cold to me.;)

I think you're pretty much stuck with .030 wire.

Looks similar to the beginning of your first example. The weave could be tighter, but the heat seemed good. Looked liked it wetted into the edges good. That's a tap machine, it's either too cold or too hot. No middle ground! I've got to buy a miller252 or a Lincoln 265 would work! Just can't convince the wife.

I wonder if anybody makes a Mig machine with hot start? It does take a little bit to get the plate hot. Then by the time you get to the top it is way too hot!

I've never used a machine with taps, I can't ever see myself owning one either.

If you're going to buy a machine, buy one of these, hands down the best machine I've ever run.:cool2:
