I am looking to have a local welder come over to my place to weld some bucket hooks and toothbar washers on my bucket. There is probably some flat bar costs and just a little time involved. What sort of cost do you guys think I am looking at? Just don't want to get ripped off.

One local welder here in Maryland gets $140.00 an hour and that hour starts when he leaves his shop.He is also very busy.Just an idea of what they run here.

It might be alot cheaper if you can take your bucket to him...

Rich, where are you located a little more precisely.

If you wanted to come north a bit I am in Clarksville.

Shops I am familar with would be $50 to $75 an hour, time starts and ends at the shop. $150 minimum or so. (unless you are a real good customer.)

At these costs yet another reason I have been shopping for a Mig welder.

I am in Goodlettsville. Don't mind taking my bucket to a shop, its just that the person I talked to was about a mile or two from my house and their welder is on their truck anyway.

I took my scraper blade to a local shop and got it all welded up.
The hitch was $55 and I think he worked too cheap.
I think the shop rate is about $30/hour and it took at least 3 hours.
I took a second piece in to get it welded and he was gonna charge me $15.
But he is gonna take it trade for some CAD drawing he needs done.
When I get done I'm gonna come out way ahead in this deal.
The CAD drawing is real simple and I told him I would do it for nothing.
But he insisted that he pay me (real well too) cause nobody else would
even talk to him about drawing the part.

Take the job to him if you can.
Have it completely ready. All fitted up, cleaned, and ready to weld.
The more you do yourself the better you will come out in the end.

I had my stuff ready to weld. I even tack welded it all up in position.
All he had to do was lay down beads of weld where it needed.
And he did cut out a big circle for me with a plasma cutter.
The whole project came out real nice. I have a little grinding to do
just to smooth out a couple of spots and it needs painted.
I have already had it on the tractor and put it thru a good bit of work.
After I get it painted I will post pictures of it. Or maybe before, depends.

I had to look up Goodlettsville to see how close you are to me.
You're closer to Alan so you might want to go see him.
Wish I could have but it would have been an overnight trip at least for us.

Just about a month ago I paid $200 to have a welder come out and weld a bracket for a thumb on my backhoe. He also helped me assemble the thumb since he had a lot of experience and I had none in that area. Although he had never before worked on a backhoe as small as mine.

He said he charged $100 per hour, including travel time, but it took us almost two hours at my place to get the job done and his shop is at least 30 minutes away. Maybe he gave me a break on cost because I helped him without getting in the way.

Walk-ins around here are charged 2 bucks a minute for welding. Think I would invest in a good welder if you own a tractor because you'll be needing it again anyway.
