I spoke too soon. Another empty rabbit hole!

i have looked up and emailed several results from the url searches and got either no response or we dont know who owns this site we are no longer associated with WW - that mrobb dude is a black hole i dont think he exists or if he does he is catfishing.......if you look up the site members i could not even find his name listed

Screw WW. They lost. Muhammed set us up!

the owner of WW sure protected his/her privacy, and don't want to be contacted for anything!. he protected him/herself like a Warez site would!!.. which is VERY suspicious of a welding site!. What for!. would be the proper question!..

We could get something set up next week. The biggest issue is I'm not a welding expert myself so perhaps a brain trust of guys who know the best way to set things up would be good so we get the sections organized nicely from the start.

I'd say 5-7 sections at first and then expand from there. Also I noticed some comments about the color scheme IIRC WW was grey and black, right?

I'd be glad to give you some help here.

I believe you should have a section for each major process. One for MIG, One for TIG, One for Stick and One for Plasma cutting One specific for Oxy-fuel welding and cutting. One section for Multi-Process. One for CNC plasma and waterjet/laser cutting. One section each for each major brand. A how to section where people can ask and answer general welding related questions without harrassment for beginners and up and coming students (Students hover over these sites like crazy). One section for welding related tools and accessories. One section for projects. One section for diagnosis of welding problems. One section to discuss welding code and related issues such as protocols, welding symbols, engineering issues etc. for more advanced users. Too many? These are pretty basic ones. I guess a few could be combined, but people looking for specific interaction on a subject or information on a specific welding process would have an easier time finding it in a more narrow category.

Let me know if I can help. This would be on my dime.

i have news about WW, i am not going to speculate on dates but i finally got through to the site admin - he is a contractor and has been for them for a while - he informed me he is going to post a new thread there later today or tomorrow regarding the restoration of the old format/files, however anything that was posted between that time and now will be lost so if you want something grab it to repost after teh restore is performed, he is shooting for the end of next week - he received the restore files just this morning - the new owners were content to just let WW go away but he was able to get them to agree to get the files to him and allow him to do this. Hopefully this is accurate - i believe it is but who knows..........I have been emailing back/forth this morning multiple times with him directly from the WW site.

Another site that was affected at the same time that is MUCH larger was broken also and due to its ( revenue i presume ) it had to be addressed first. He also maintains that site and has been overwhelmed with that also. It was just restored this past weekend finally and seems stable so he is going to be able to work on WW now with the new files he received.

In other words, Informa still owns the site. They are the new owners of Penton.

   / Welding Web Down? #252
he would not divulge who the new owners were specifically just that they were treating it as a website not a community so were not really interested in keeping it going - after he convinced them to spend the $$ to restore it he said they seem to be more interested in getting things back to where it was. im not familiar with penton and he did not say what other site went down that was more of a crisis

Doesn't really make sense to me at this point. Informa said they don't own it. But according to the website, Informa owns HVAC-Talk. Robb M seemed to indicate that WW is owned by the same people as HVAC-Talk as they had restored that site and WW would be next. This is the owner that was just going to dump WW and shut it down when it was down, but Robb M convinced them to keep it going? Then when I came around offering to buy WW, I was told it's not for sale.

i guess robb convinced them to keep it running, not sure why or how he didnt say nor did he elude if informa was the people he was talking about and he never mentioned HVAC-Talk by name jsut that some other site that was deemed more important got higher priority and yes it was robb that i corresponded with. Why they would want to jsut let it die would mean its not a huge revenue generator for them for keeping WW going and maybe why they didnt care. its hard to determine when everyone is vague.........

Yeah I for one would be at least willing to listen if somebody is offering to buy a site. :confused3:

Yeah I trust web designers about as far as I can throw them.

Oops. Sorry Muhammad. I guess that should have been in the Quotes and Sayings thread. My bad.

Perhaps Robb M and the fact that you were interested in buying it was enough to convince them that it was worth keeping going?
