West Coast Smoke, UGH!

Damnation - now it's back again this afternoon. Thick as ever. And the basaltic lava cliffs - down at the far end. Totally obscured right now. Here is a pic of the little lake( 5 acres ) and the cliffs down at the far end. On a nice clear summer day. Pic taken off my front porch. View attachment 669755

Here the smoke is now under the clouds that have slowly pushed in. As such, I am guessing that the winds are stronger at the higher altitudes. Would be interesting to see a motion map showing how the smoke and clouds are playing.

Whatever - looks like we could be seeing "the nasty thing" for quite a while yet. All that North CA smoke is bending to the NE and right over into Ea WA. Looks like a cloud cover is hiding the smoke coming right up the coast line.

Where is a good strong wind out of the E/NE when you need one.

Another good point - since the smoke is so wide spread here in Ea WA. Everybody over here will smell the same. Kind of like a light kippered salmon.

Hey Hey! We have some light rain coming down. Went out to stand in it bare chested and in shorts and took my first deep breath in awhile. Still tasted the smoke though. Not much will accumulate but should knock down the fire danger a bit locally if not much of the smoke.

My rain gauge is reporting 0.04in of rain tonight... first traces in over a month! The pavement is wet! Not near enough but it did a little to knock it down just a bit and I can take a half a full breath and not cough. Air quality still over 200 though but the moisture feels good. And here I am in the wet PNW wishing for rain. :confused3:

We didn't get anything but weather is holding no wind . . . cut a lot of fire breaks I have.

Views from (ironically) the top of a fire tower in Tippecanoe River State Park in Winimac, IN, which is about 100 miles SE of Chicago, about 4:00PM, today, September 15, 2020.
