Almost a Ooops.

Took down a tree yesterday and went to clean it up today. Trunk was too big to lift to get anything under it to cut so the saw didn't dirt. Wrapped a strap around it and lifted with the bucket. Not on fully level ground. All went well, but when I cut the first chunk off and relieve that weight, I noticed the tractor move up and away from me. Apparently it had been on three wheels or nearly so under the weight of the trunk. Bucket was only about two feet off the ground and the tree was only less than six inches off ground, so no real threat. Just one of those 'hmmmm, that was interesting' moments.

Never even heard of pine straw until I began following your posts. I have Spruce trees but no spruce straw? It must have something to do with the length of the needles. Nice job too!

usually comes from the bigger 'Pine' trees, the south is known for. my phone with the pics died on me, but when it's charged, I'll post some more pics. We have huge pine trees in our yard, our neighbor does as well. We used to have to buy it by the bale, not any more. I have one more 'raking' to do, and I'll be piling it and covering it to keep it clean. All the flower beds and shrubs I've been working on mulching this week, will be freshened up in the spring

Interesting material. Looks like excellent mulch.

Read up on pine straw. Valuable mulch and is sold commercially. Guess, I have never seen pine trees with 9" needles.

yeah it's excellent mulch for acid loving plants like azaleas and blueberrys and anything in the rhododendren family. But we've used it on everything for years. Esp now that I have all these pine trees and get it for free....well I do have to rake it, but I can do that with the tractor, in 8' wide swaths ;)

I'm out toodling around moving firewood, about mid-range RPMs and I start to hear this loud whomp-whomp-whomp sound just about in tune with the engine. I'm under load, but it still sounds odd, so I'm starting to get concerned, checking what I can. Then I happen to look up and see two Chinook helos flying over.

Ahhhh, that'll do it.

Building my plow rig, basically a 60" ATV plow that I'm having welded to a SSQA plate for a quick attach plow platform. My woodshed and shelterlogic tent garage are about 100 yards from the house, use the FEL as a wheelbarrow to fill the wood ring in the garage. I do this about 3-4 a week since I heat my house with wood, good thing I only have a small ranch...Only about 4 full chords/year.

:laughing: reminds me of the time I caught up to a 4WD truck with monster mudders on it, started hearing my rear end roar, so I slowed down and it stopped. Speed back up, the closer I got to that truck, the louder my rear end roared. Took me a few times to realize what was happening, and yes I'm quite capable of laughing at myself :D

Pulled the MMM off for the first time.

Did we know that the anti-scalp wheels turn to allow rolling the deck out? I apparently don't have a separate manual for it and no instructions are in the main book.
