Attitive? Interesting. . .do you recommend a stabilizer due to the infrequent use . .or is there another additive that is importand for diesels?

If it's the former . . Is there any downside to constant running with fuel stabilizers?

And i'll be sure to bring a funnel if I can't find a nice neat siphon solution.

I am thinking a stabilizer due to infrequent use, but I am still researching this. I also need to figure out how I am going to get my 30 gallon drum over to the gas station. BTW, anyone got a calculation for the weight of 30 gallons of diesel fuel + 30 pounds for the drum.

I have 2 choices when it comes to filling my 30 gallon drum with red off road diesel.
1~Take it to the fuel distributor.
2~* Have the distributor top it off whenever they're in my area making deliveries.
This way there is no delivery fee or minimum gallon requirement.
_*__If I were you I'd check this out with your distributor because if they will do this you won't need to bother with hauling the drum back and forth. _______________

Diesel fuel is just over 7 lbs per gallon. 30 gallons is roughly 210-220 lbs

4*+30 pounds for the drum.

1*The year around I use 3 ounces of Power Service per 5 gallon of Diesel Fuel which would be 18 ounces for a 30 gallon drum.
2*If I was going to use a 30 gallon drum I sure wouldn't be getting my fuel at a gas station. I mean What's the advantage?
3*I just use 7.5 pounds per gallon as a ball park figure.
4*30 pounds sounds awful heavy for a plastic drum.

Here is one way:
Build a square dolly with caster wheels on each corner to set the drum on.
Bolt a small inexpensive hand truck to the dolly and strap the drum to it.
Now you can:
Lift the dolly drum and all with a set of forks on your tractor.
Haul it around with the hand truck.
Move it around with the casters.
Unloading the drum from a pick up:
Lift it off with tractor
Use ramps and truck it off with the hand truck.
Build a dock Bench shelf or what ever you want to call it the same height as the tail gate of a pick up and roll if off the truck right onto the dock with the casters.

About5-6 years ago I hung out for several hours at a farm auction to get to bid on a 300 gal tank on a stand. I paid $75 and put on a new hose and nozzle. I also installed a water stopping filter. Works for me. Otherwise I would have used a metal or plastic drum on a DIY stand and added a hose and nozzle. I have pallet forks so lifting the full drum onto the stand would not have been hard.

Unfortunately I can't find a nozzle with auto cutoff that will work with such low pressure/flow as I have and I get bored just adding 8-9 gal to tank.

I can imagine how slow a little siphon pump would be and the danger would be to get antsy and wander off to do something else and run it over.

Instead of the $400 Handy caddy, how about getting a hand barrel pump
>Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
for $20, a 50 gallon drum and some sort of a caddy or a hand truck.
You'll also need to buy some hose from your hardware store.
Harbor freight use to sell drum caddy's, I have two from them, but I can't seem to find it on their web site.
Don't forget to paint the drum yellow for diesel.

If you get another for gasoline storage, paint it red and leave it outside for ventilation.

I did a little goggling (keywords drum dolly) and found some reasonably priced 55 gallon drum dollies:
>drum dolly from Northern Tool + Equipment
for $30.
They're rated at 400 pounds so they;ll take 7.5 * 55 gallons just barely.
The Handy caddy has a gauge but you can substitute a measuring stick.
The gotcha is that the dolly has small wheels so moving it over gravel would be rough.
I have two drums painted and ready for gasoline and kerosene so it would be nice to make it three with diesel.

I use 5 gallon Klotz fuel cans. They have a metal spout that pulls out.
* I was going to use one of my 250 gallon bulk tanks but decided not to because of the fuel sitting too long before use. I think it's better to have fresh fuel. I also use a funnel with a paper paint strainer liner.
*
Why don't you just forget the 5 gallon cans and use the fuel in the bulk tanks for your tractor?????

That's what i'd do!

By no means a silly question mx125...just good forethought. I use a blue 5 gallon plastic can and a run of the mill funnel. It is indeed a challenge to hold, pour, and prevent overfill spillage that funnels seem to promote. If I were filling on a more frequent basis than I currently do, some sort of pump would be on my shopping list. :(
