Oil & Fuel What do you use to fill your JD with Diesel?

Well, I just spilled fuel all over the place filling my 2320 with a yellow can and that's it! I have a pump and now I'm going to make a set up to do it quick clean and right.

Do tractor supply houses sell around a 30 gallon tank I can put diesel in?

Doesn't that just torque you off. I've done the same thing and
no matter how careful I am, there is always some spillage and/or
splatter. So, I, too, bought a AC-powered pump and hose from
Northern Tool. Haven't set it up yet.

Wish I had the cab model on my 3520 - the filler location is
in the left fender.

I won't forget to go with yellow or blue . . .as you say . .i already have enough gasoline powered things I would screw up.

I will look for a pump siphon . . .that sounds more elegant.

And that's good news on consumption. The JD specs had me thinking it would use 1.6g/h . .or 3.8hours at full throttle. I knew I'd have idling time to increase that . .but your estimate is twice or better than I thought. Great.

Thanks for the insights.

I found this wonderful siphon pump at my local Outdoor World in the boating department for under $10. It has this little one-way valve on one end and about 5ft of clear hose. You put the valve end in you fuel can and give it a bit of the "choke-the-chicken" manuever to start the siphoning. It can empty a five gal can in about a minute. You just pull the valve and out if you want to stop it sooner.

I set the can on the hood, but anywhere above tank level, in the range of the hose, will work.

I am low budget if my tractor is loaded I stop by the Fuel Station and top off. If I fuel in the field I use two yellow 5 gal plastic cans with handle on top and side. The spout is self venting. I start pouring in and immediately set on tractor fender just balancing it until it’s about empty. I am cautious about dirt so I leave a about a pint in the bottom at all times. I always keep the top and spout clean, filled one of my cans yesterday and its still clean on the inside.

I have two of the very same. I think mine came from WalMart @ ~$5 each.

Yeah, those are the ones that Walmart used to sell (and is still available at my local TSC). They work ok. The style I got more recently at Walmart doesn't work so well.

We use the 30-gal gas caddy manufactured here in my home town by Handy Manufacturing.
1*Makes it nice when time for fuel cuz I can load/unload into back of truck with loader and eliminates having to lug heavy, leaky cans.
Not the cheapest alternative but definately more user friendly and cleaner!! I can't keep those little yellow seals/discs that keep the fuel from leaking out nozzle (or keep dirt & debris out) around for more than a month or two before I lose em! Pain in the a*# to boot. Check out the gas caddy here Handy Industries Online Store
If i had something like that I wouldn't fool with loading and unloading it into a truck with the loader.
I'd just have my fuel delivered.

I use 2 5 gallon yellow diesel cans and then put a paint filter in the funnel. The 2320 sips fuel. I have spent several hours doing loader work and pulling brush and the tank will be more than half full.
I am looking into having a drum of farm diesel delivered. It is a Lot cheaper then the $3.00 or so per gallon for non dyed stuff. If I go that route I'll just get a crank pump.
Say you're 6 feet away from the tractor when cranking the pump then how can you tell when the tanks getting full with out running it over?

1*Attitive? Interesting. . .do you recommend a stabilizer due to the infrequent use . .or is there another additive that is importand for diesels?

2*-. Is there any downside to constant running with fuel stabilizers?

3*And i'll be sure to bring a funnel if I can't find a nice neat siphon solution.

1*powr service in the white bottle. 3 oz per 5 gal. 2*Never heard of any mentioned on any any of the tractor boards. 3* make sure it's a water seperating one.

that's assuming you can get just 30 gallons delivered. as a previous poster mentioned, the minimum he can get delivered is 150 gal. here iirc, the last time i checked around it was 100 gal minimum delivery.
