load your front bucket up on the left side only with bags of ready mix or chain a big rock to it on one side. then swing your backhoe all the way to the left side and out a bit. chain another rock to it and raise it all the way up.
drive up to a hill sideways on your right and raise the bucket all the way up with the rock suspended just below the bucket. now sit on the left side of the seat and lower the right stabilizer down and then start up the hill at an angle.
call the emergency services and have some chains ready so they can get you out and take pictures. that sould get you on your side or top if not add more weight and find a bigger slope/hill

From one who did.

It happens real easy and very quick.
First the view was Ok then someone turned the world on its side.
Still had one hand on the steering wheel and one on the bucket control.
Seatbelt kept me in the seat.
All I did was hit a rock with the front wheel whilst going backwards in a turn.

I haven't rolled a BX, thank goodness. I do know they (like in small tractor) can bet very tippy, very quick. We should always err on the side of caution.

I have heard multiple say that the BX's can be tippy. I have a bx1500 and find it to be pretty stable feeling. I have had it on some decent slopes as well. I would think that given their lower stance, they would be more stable. Is their something that makes them less stable than a B or L series?

Had a scary experience two days ago:

Moving a ~500# to 600# stump out of the back yard to a neighbor's brush pile. Have wheel weights, but didn't have any other rear ballast...box blade idle in the garage. Was doing work with the Trailer and had the reciever and ball in the 3PH. Operating at the absolute limit of my machine's capacity thusly configured...rear wheels skipping on the ground.

Smartly, I kept the load about 1 inch off the ground, but had to drop the load some 15 times because it felt like she was going over as I traversed twigs/stumps/undulations.

Stupidly, I got on flat asphalt and thought "I wonder if I can actually lift this thing". I've easily lifted and manuvered 500# of salt (10 50# bags) around in the exact same configuration with no problem at all...false confidence as it turned out.

Impressively, raising the load wasn't an issue. But on the way down, I 'paused' with the joystick and FORWARD she went, listing to the articulation limits of the front axle before I could get the load all the way to the ground.

VERY scary and VERY stupid. I have had my machine on spectacular side slopes in 'mowing' configuration while feeling quite stable, but that silly loader can flip you over in a second, even in the middle of a stone flat asphalt road.

I did have my seatbelt on.

Don't want all the lawyer freaks to take this wonderful machine away because of its limitations...really, it should weigh another 1,000 lbs to better match its capabilities. But you really CANNOT give this machine enough respect. 100 hours and counting, and I learned a good one: Stupid to impress someone else, but even stupider to try and impress yourself.

I rolled one on fairly level ground while mowing. It was a rental.
No injuries, but the seat belt broke when I went over and we lost
all the hydro fluid. I paid for the rental insurance which included
any repairs to dents, the lost hydro and a credit back on the rental.
I was mowing on level ground, hit a hole and powered it over
due to inexperience.
When I purchased, I bought a Grand L series, filled the tires and
extended the tires to full width. Feels much more secure and
I pay more attention now.

Is their something that makes them less stable than a B or L series?

The FEL and BH makes a BX very top heavy. Which is also the norm for the B, L and/or any tractor set up as a TLB. All that additonal weight hanging on the machine above the axles moves the center of gravity higher.

Hi Keith:

I guess I don't understand what you are saying, I picture this you are going down a road with loader low and heavy weight in it you lift it up to max and start to lower stopping somewhere in mid point which lifts rear end up. So even if you did nothing wouldn't the bucket hit the ground maybe skidding along some stopping forward tilt and then machine coming back to 4 wheels or you lowering bucket till rear back to earth? Not making fun just can't understand To me a roll over is either to high a hookup in back and to much forward speed /imovable item or the more normal side ways as seen on to many safety sites vids. My bx23 seems very stable even with the BH on side hills keep loader low rear wheel weights and mower deck on and if really hairy stab down on tip side and BH tilted uphill side (have a fiberglass canopy on ROPS to raise CG).

Trying to understand.

Thanx Pat R

That's actually exactly what happened. I'm not saying that I was actually 100% on my way over and God's hand came down and saved me from myself. But whoever you are, wherever you are, if you KNOW:
A) you are at the absolute limits of the machine and with your load 4 feet in the air
B) you do something REALLY stupid (if item A wasn't dumb enough) and as a direct result of said stupidity you're
C) riding a 2,000 lb orange bucking bronco
---off kilter, all tilted to the side...
---with the rear wheels a foot in the air and rising...
---asphalt below and very expensive things breaking a possible outcome...
you are going to have a MAJOR PUCKER EPISODE.

Perhaps something that would help (or not help)...I had the 500+# stump STRAPPED INTO THE BUCKET since it was so large and I couldn't lift it without it rolling out the front. So even if I did a "quick dump", I was still stuck with the load. Had to actually lower the bucket the long way to the ground. One of those "0.5 seconds seems like 3 minutes" moments.

Then you put the tractor away and have a beer. Which I did.

I'm a '4 wheels on the ground' sort of guy. Not a skydiver. Took me 10 hours of scratching around to work out the white knuckles. I handle the machine like an extension of my arm now, but I hate getting tought new lessons when I'm not in a classroom. Just scared the mess out of me for a moment and HOPED that nobody saw what I did.

And as everybody before said: It happens so darn quick!

Thanks for the interest. I love this place. Don't judge me for being a dummy:) That's why I'm sharing...so anyone who reads this can think "Oh yeah...I'm not supposed to do this...". Isn't that what Mr. HomeBrew wanted? Some "reality" posts? I have others. I'll save them. Little embarrased.

Hi keith again:

So were you rolling to 1 side because the stump was heavy with root/dirt etal or just going *ss end over tea cup forward? Sounds like just forward at least if you wern't in 4wd when back came off you slowed down. I have been stuck (twice same spot but nowhere tipping front ways) but nowhere in the position you describe!! Hope you had bleach for the underwear!!

Ps my hour meter just turned 31 hrs with last snow so still the FNG!
