What engine driven wlder

/ What engine driven wlder #21
I have a HH187, and a 6/7 kw(rated/peak) gas generator. I didn't know if it was going to work as a portable machine, but it does, and nicely, with 030 flux core.

All in, it was less than $1150, and they can be loaded on my truck by hand(I am a relatively stout fella).

It wouldn't work for anything commercial, but I have not had a weld break(in relatively severe service, such as bucket blades). It would certainly work for fences.

I haven't run the welder at full output with the generator, but have welded 1/8" and 3/16" c channel and pipe. Even when hooked to the grid, I can't run the hh187 at full power for long(~2 minutes) before it shuts down. At tap 5 of 7, the welder hooked to the generator has not shut down for as long as I can concentrate.

I think if you want a high output generator, then you get the engine driven welder. If you've already got a decent generator, you just get a stick welder.

I was considering a miller 302 with an EFI engine, mainly because it wasn't much more than just a generator rated that high.
