"Swing Shift"--dates to days of WWII. Means a work shift from mid-afternoon to midnight.
Never heard the term used in connection with CUTs.

Yep and when A teen I worked those 3 shifts.
Swing was my downfall, you played all day and then went to work all tired out.
I'm surprised that there ore not more accidents on that shift.
Night was better 4 me. Sleep to noon and then play

LOL, swing was , like 5PM to midnight so if you were still awake I guess you could have hit the bars as around here they closed at 3 AM.
My problem back then was that we waterskied most days practicing for events and competitions.
All day in full sun took a fair bit out of you.
I, however still have all my fingers as back then my summer job was on production lines at a tin can factory that sported all kinds of dangerous machinery.
The wages however were to kill for.
Some summer students earned enough to purchase brand new cars on their one summer wages, and that a full sized Chevy or Ford!

I used to like working nights. It kept me out of trouble. ;) I worked days mostly after we had children. Wanted to be home in the evenings with them. Worked out well. Did a lot of family stuff for many, many years. When my youngest was a junior in high school I was forced to take a 7pm-3am shift out of necessity. Did that for three years until production was outsourced and we all lost our jobs. 7pm-3am isn't too bad of a shift. I'd be in bed by 3:30am. Up around 10:00am. Eat a light breakfast, do all my home chores (and maybe a little fishing ;)). Start making dinner around 4:30, eat with the wife and kid around 5:30. Leave for work at 6:45 and punch in at 7:00. I got to be a pretty good cook, the wife didn't have to think about what to make for dinner. I did all the groceries and house cleaning. We'd really only spend time together on weekends. It was kinda like dating again.

Yep, same here. During high school I worked that lonely shift every night at a gas station down in the slums. I was on my own by then. Tough neighborhood, tough times.

Worked ' trick ' work for nine months in a huge comm center behind the Farben building in downtown Frankfurt in the mid 60's. Back when the word 'trick' or 'gay' meant something entirely different, was different times. Had four big tricks [ groups ] of people. Days for six days with three days off, swing shift for six days with three days off, then six days on midnights with two days off. Young, and could put up with it... We would even stay up and drive to Amsterdam on our off time.... then come home and literately crash until time to go back to the old grind. Then I got to see the other side of the world....

I could do that stuff if I was single, but being married and having a family would kill me on that shift.
