Orebonder, if you have detent on one of your remotes, and you are certain the backhoe valve is a open center valve, you can use that remote. Bob's set up is using the power beyond from his tractor and therefore does not require a valve. However, it would require a hose looped between the two connections on the tractor if he takes the backhoe off.
To use the remote with detent, you will need to know the flow direction of your remote in relation to the lever position. The port that flows out of the tractor would go to the power in port of the backhoe valve. The tank port from the backhoe valve would go to the remaining port for the spool you are using on the tractor.
I am hesitant in suggesting this because if it is a closed center system on the backhoe, which I doubt, and you hook it up to your remotes, you can damage your hydraulic system on the tractor as flow would stop. If you move the remote valve in the wrong direction, you could damage the backhoe valve. You need to understand exactly what is needed to safely use remotes for this purpose.
If you can live with the PTO pump, that would be simplest.
Hope this helps!
