The main reason for me, is just to avoid having piles of branches everywhere from pruning my dad's orchard and taking the occasional tree down. It's just a mess and looks bad.
In my country, since we have lots of wildfires every year, we have very restrict policies when it takes to burn this stuff. We have a very narrow window in the winter but this stuff is usually too wet to burn anyway.
So I think this is a good solution for the problem with the added bonus of still having some use for what otherwise would be useless wood.
I usually cut everything down till around 3" but depending on the mood, sometimes I go lower than that. Sometimes, for the smaller stuff, I grab a handful of branches and use the splitter to cut it in small pieces but it's kinda slow.
