Where it pivots on the transmission case there's a friction damper with a short coil spring and some friction plates. It's adjusted with two nuts on threaded studs which determine spring tension. They're double nutted so they don't back out.

The throttle has a mini version of that inside the dash. Mine was pretty tight. I backed it way off. Now it's much smoother and easier to change a small amount, but it will move if you bump it. I realize the safety implications of that.

I never liked the way the SMV sign on my Branson 4815C mounted. It protruded beyond the footprint of the tractor. Because it was on the left side, I could not get close to the fence without it hanging. My finish mower discharges to the right. See picture below.

I noticed there is 2 window mounts not being used for anything so I turned them around and made a new bracket for the sign. I had a scrap piece of aluminum diamond plate that was rigid but light weight. I put a Z bend in it to clear the window wiper.

I am happy with the final result! Now I can mow without worrying about hanging that thing all the time. It could not be in a better spot on the window as it doesn't interfere with my vision of things at all! Perfect!

Interesting idea. I'd be concerned about cracking the glass due to excess vibrations. Are you using some kind of rubber isolation grommets or similar for the bolts that go through the glass?

I agree that your original location for the sign would be a hindrance.

Yes it is a rubber grommet that is also a gasket. It is the same as the hinges and latch. I don't see it ever being a problem. The hole in the glass is about 1/2" diameter. There is a good 1/4" isolation around the bolt.

Just a suggestion...
Why not just use a stick-on " slow moving sign".... No worry about glass breaking ....or 3M double side tape?

I did think of that as well as just not having it anymore. Don't really road it unless going to help a neighbor. I guarantee there is less stress on this mount than the pressure from the gas props that hold the window open. Same exact type mount. I don't see it ever breaking the glass.

Spend some time today, testing my newly made attachment. It's a branch logger/chopper. Not sure exactly on the name.

Basically chops the branches in small pieces that are useful for small stoves like the one I have on the shop. I'm also expecting to do quite well on the bbq.

At first, I was going for a conventional wood chipper but I don't really have any use for the material, then I found this style of chopper.

It uses 4 knives made of a Hardox cutting edge using in loader buckets. It's no where near completion, still needs all the guards, some reinforcements on the frame, a support to hold a bag so it fills directly into the bag.

Was good enough for a short test run. It's kinda sketchy without all the guards. I was able to cut through a 1 5/8" diameter branch easily and it cuts in short 4 to 5" pieces. I'm using the PTO shaft from the rototiller which does have a fusible bolt as protection.

I planned on building a clutch/torque limiter on the bigger sprocket but I need some bigger clutch discs and bigger round stock to machine a hub to hold everything in place. With all the lock downs, it's kinda hard to get that stuff right now.



Here is a video of it running and chopping a 1/2" thick stick.

Interesting, I have seen videos of other chopper type wood cutters for the smaller wood.
It seems like the Europeans are much more frugal with their wood, I have seen many firewood cutters around that don't bother with anything under 6".
