What implement works best for controlling weeds, foxtails.

Does anyone have suggestions on the style of S-Tines to choose? There appears to be three different styles of tines and three or four kinds of tips.

To reach 7" deep, which is max depth Gearmore specs, you will need points, i.e.: #1.
Tines 1-3/4" wide offer considerable resistance to being drawn through the soil. As tines flex and release, they resist going deeper.

Shovels, i.e.: #2, #3 are for shallow cultivation. While you show two Gearmore shovels, the Gearmore parts diagram shows only one shovel size: 7". Replacement shovels in various sizes and points are readily available from multiple venders on the internet.

All tips are readily changed on my equipment. Just remove one (specialty) Plow Bolt one nut and washer(s). Gearmore may use two fasteners per point/shovel.

I see only a single 1/2" X 1-3/4" size S-tine in the parts diagram, page 26.

My Dad just used his 12-foot wide toolbar with gauge wheels - the toolbar had three rows of sweeps on it from front to back (about 24 individual sweeps). In the spring when the foxtail would start coming up he would run the depth about two inches under the ground. This killed all the foxtail and left the ground basically undisturbed to keep in the moisture.

LOL, I Divorced her two years ago, so I can buy all the toys my little heart desires I got a call today and they have the 5' UnverFerth Perfecta in stock where I live for $2,300. Also I found out that gearmore does not build their cultivator in Chino Ca., there another company that just slaps their name on it, its built in Washington by someone else.

Thanks for the info Jeff, the UnverFerth dealer gave me this info on their tines, he said you can't run the 7" sweeps on the standard S-tines, only on the heavy duty, so I think it would be wise to order the cultivator with the heaviest S-time they make so I can use any size sweeps that I choose.
