Need to grease my FEL for the first time and it seems everyone likes the moly stuff. I picked up some of the valvoline moly EP thats grey in color. What does kubota use from the factory? Can I just add or do I need to replace? Kubota website has two grease listed one blue polyurea and one black, moly-lithium. Are either compatible with the valvoline moly? Or should I just go get the kubota stuff?

Kubota doesn't use any grease for the loader at the factory. They are assembled and greased by your dealer. He uses what ever grease he likes. When my new Kubota L3400 was delivered several of the grease zerks still had paint over them and no grease in the joints. Just a wad on top of the zerk where the dealers mechanic put a grease gun to it, but did not notice the zerk took NO grease. I scraped the paint off of the zerks at about 3 hours when I noticed "sqeaking sounds" coming from the loader. And, personal opinion here, but in a low speed application like a loader, I don't think it matters what grease you use as much as the fact you grease at least every 10 hours of use to keep the dirt/water out of the joints. I doubt you can figure out what grease was used upon initial lubrication, unless you ask your dealer. I would just grease it well now, with the grease of your choice, and use it a bit, and grease again to help force out the original grease, and then you will know what kind of grease is in it.

From my understanding the synthetics like RoyalPurple are best at holding moisture out. I just find the price is a RoyalPain :D

Be careful of the polyurea grease. Most PU are incompatible with other grease systems.

I agree.
Aside from some compatibility and spec issues, frequent greasing with a quality grease is more important than some high buck, special, super "moly" grease. Mine came with Kubota moly grease in the pins, however I use LubexEP Irving Quality Lubricants & Specialty Fluids :: Grease Its pretty much THE standard grease around here, from excavators to tractors.

Dealer said "Its just um grease".... I pulled a pin and it looks like the color of motor oil. Brownish. Not sure if that tells you anything but is the valvoline moly EP compatible with general all purpose grease? Or should I just make the mess and purge it all because I dont know whats in there?

Grease it often and don't worry about it. TSC has Red grease on sale for 2 bucks a tube. That's a dollar off per tube.

I use the red stuff. I don't worry about what brand. I figure if my wife, who is an excellent cook can cook by color, I can grease by color.

"Needs more red." :D

I use the red stuff too.. the Brown, might be New Holland Ambra. My dealer gave me 2 tubes of that with the tractor as they are also a New Holland dealer

I ended up just greasing with the molly ep. There seemed to be so little grease in them in the first place I doubt I'll have an issue. (Wish I checked sooner) Why do you all like the red so much because it matches the tractor or for certain properties over others?

For an open ended system like pins in a loader, don't worry about compatibility as it is all forced out during the greasing operation AND when working. That is why you need to grease often with a good heavy grease that will stick to the pins. I use any EP grease that happens to be on sale which reminds me that I need to find some more. I am down to my last tube from the case I bought. $2 a tube is about the limit I will spend for FEL/backhoe grease as it ends up on the ground or on the loader arms from being squished out during operation.

Speaking of which whats the best way to clean up? Degreaser on a rag? Assuming powerwasher or horse will get water into joints. Sorry I know this is all trivial but its my first brand spankin new tractor so I got daddy issues right now hah.

To keep my life as simple as possible, I use the same grease for everything that I own. ....i.e. Ford F-250 and Crown Vic and the Kubota or whatever else needs grease. The Valvoline Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Moly MultiPurpose tubes in just one grease gun works for me.

Lucas Red and Tacky is what many here swear by.

I havent had the luck that others have with it. It doesnt preform for me as well as the green Lubex particularly when it comes to water resistance. Not that the Lubex is that far superior purely from a lubricant perspective, but it is much cheaper, probably more than 1/2 as expensive when bought by the case. To me, more grease, is better grease (for many applications).

To put a finer point on it, as a rule I HATE irving products (having worked for them), I will buy their grease however, mostly due to cost/benefit.

As my Service Manager told me " Most of my Customers own Grease Guns but few of them use them.
