Ford 1710

It leaks (pours) hydraulic fulid out of the top of this part (brass nut on top) when I try to use the post hole digger. The digger no longer raises and the fluid loss is too bad to even try to use the digger anymore. It doesn't appear to affect the bucket but only the rear 3PH.

Can anyone please tell me what this part is called and if a repair manual will guide me through the repair?

Are the generic repair manuals for the Ford 1710 suitable?

Does this part generally need replacing or just new seals?

Thanks

Sevans,

Can you take picture more zoomed out so we can see more details. The device above (silvery unpainted) most likely is the Hyd pump. The banjo connection with the bigger dia pipe has to be either suction to a pump or return from a device. The smaller dia compression type tube fitting must be high pressure line to a device but don't believe it'll go to you 3 point lift system. Please explain where the oil is spewing out, don't believe it can be from compression or banjo fitting. There must be a a seal between the pump and diverter valve?? that is leaking. Since it appears that you must have lost your 3point lift as well leads me to believe you have pipe shaft seal that is damaged. Not difficult to repair but would not run the pump dry till you fixed it. I'd follow all the pipe suction and discharge and to where they terminate. That might give us some clues.

JC,

I could not see the diverter?? valve or whatever it is on NH Parts website. You can look at the attached PDF file

Ditto waht JC said.. i didn't see the pack under the pump.. which perhaps is ?priority valve for ps? (WAG).. but in any event..I bet it has that same connection sized oring, #1 in the diagram at that connection point.. ( PN sba052100200 ), since it would be on the hi-pressure side.. etc..

pull her apart and see if you have a hard flattened and bypassing oring..

post back

Sorry, I posted pics and then relaized I had the descriptions wrong so I deleted that post. Let me try this again!

I'm going to post several replies so I don't get confused with what's what.

Below is a zoomed-out view.

P1040656.JPG

Below is a blue pipe (bottom right) that comes in at the bottom of the part.

P1040659.JPG

Below is where that blue pipe originates. The box with all the hoses attached is where the blue pipe originates and it's the one coming out of the box on the right side behind the hoses.

Here is another zoomed-out view. In this pic you can see a bigger blue pipe that crosses over the oil filter.

This bigger blue pipe runs back to behind my left foot plate as shown below.

This reply talks about the brass pipe on the bottom left of the part and shown below.

P1040659.JPG

The brass pipe runs directly to the steering wheel area. The area that is behind the gear shift levers and one's knees when sitting on the tractor. This area is shielded by the tractor body.

Here is where it appears to be spewing out... It does leak when there is a load on the bucket as well.

I'm not exactly sure if it leaks from the top of the nut, bottom of the blue cylinder, or bottom of the nut.

This is my last set of pics. If you want something else shown just let me know. I really appriciate the help.

Oh... the big blue pipe that dead-ends behind the foot plate is not connected to the part in question but rather appears to be indirectly connected to the silver part (pump?) above the valve we're talking about.

These pictures are good. What I said on my earlier post is partially wrong due to not seeing the bigger picture. On the second pic in this post, what you see is suction piping from differential housing (hyd oil reservoirs). Obviously you have no inlet screen due to the shape and size of your inlet pipe connection to the housing. The first pic tells is all. The suction goes to a hyd filter to the inlet of the pump on top. The discharge is on the bottom of the pump to what is a HYD diverter valve serving two things, The bottom banjo being the discharge pipe plumbed to 3-point lift spool valve. I don't know where the other smaller discharge valve with the compression fitting go. I'd refer to previous post by Soundguy on that one. The potential leak possibilities are from 3 different sources. Either at the bottom discharge fitting of the pump (bad o-ring ....may be), at the connection to diverter block (maybe another o-ring ) or lastly at the pump shaft seal. The thing with the pump shaft seal is, if it were top leak it would do it internally where is mated with the timing gear that drives the hyd pump. Hemorrhage like that would be internally and you'd have crankcase oil mixed with hyd oil ( not a happy marrige:D). I'd probably clean the area and run the engine for a few second and inspect. The paper gasket between pump and the timing cover may also not be tight but you whould not expect oil spewing from there with any pressure. Keep us posted.

This may be it,if you're lucky. Replacing pump shaft seal is a lot more involved. Pump has to be taken out to replace any o-ring there. Link below may help you a bit. It is a repair I have done on my hyd pump.
