We married in 86, needed a freezer but didn't want to spend the money to buy new. Found a place that sold used. Turns out he had a contract with Sears to haul off old appliances. The ones that worked or that he could get working he sold, the rest he scrapped. Bought our freezer from him for $50. Still working today, and I trust it yearly with half a steer!

I too built around it. It's in the furnace room and will be a royal PITA to move...but when we build this summer, it's coming with! If she fires up after the move I will trust it will outlive me!!

I haven't put it into full service yet due to not really needing an extra freezer at the time also it had the original power cord on it that was spliced into multiple times to make cord longer and taped back together with MASKING TAPE....so I plugged it in shortly after buying the house...didnt venture very far away from it during this trial...made sure it worked and unplugged it until a rainy day that I had time to put a new power cord and plug on it....TODAY WAS THAT RAINY DAY....got a new cord on it cleaned it up..and its looking and working pretty good!!

Very nice. I would get that thing full of food and put it in service so it isn't a safety concern. I have an old one like it in the basement, empty and unplugged but took the latch off so a niece, nephew or grandkid doesn't climb inside playing hide and seek and have the door close. Those latches lock solid if they are like mine and don't open from the inside. If the gasket is tight..... you can guess the concern. Better safe than sorry. Full of food there should be no issue.

I have this Chelsea_8_Admiral-1881-2.jpg. It has been in the family since the 1950's and according to family stories it came off the Kaiser Whilhelms' (sp) yacht the Meteor II.

I got this old radio from my dad. This model was manufactured in 1930 & 31. Don't know if it works, but it makes a nice decoration.

My OLD appliance works on and off, has lots of misc noises often in middle of the night. It stopped washing dishes, Heats up or cools down for no reason during the day and never heats up at night but I keep it around. :D

Neighbor had an OLD refrigerator rounded front with the small aluminum ice box inside it at the top. It was turned into a Beer Keg cooler & our other neighbor painted it up to look like a frosted beer mug! Has frosty white/yellow with bubbles on the mug as well as frothy head & foam over the side!!! Works real well looks great too.

Those OLD refrigerators are some energy hogs but the little extra is worth it to have a dependable appliance same goes for ALL new appliances dang sure none of the kids/grand kids will have today's NEW POS appliance around when they grow up. Heck we went thru 3 washers in last 10 years for just 2 of us old farts so not a lot of use.

Wow I think your neighbor really has/had something of value...everyone who ever looked at my freezer said if it would have had the ice box on top of it...it would really be worth some $$$$

As a kid we always had a cookie jar on the counter that would be periodically filled, and emptied. After some successive moves and many years, we ended up with it. I looked it up online a while back and discovered it was made in Vermont around 1860. The top was added by my father around 1947 when they acquired it while living near Littleton, NH.
It is a source of good memories, including the chocolate cookies!

I have my Dads machinist tool box from when he worked at DeHaviland Aircraft in the late '30's and some of his bucking bars. he gave it to his girl friend (my mother) when he enlisted in the Air Force. She worked at DeHaviland, too.
