What kind of mushroom is it and whether it is edible or not?

I have this Turkey Tail mushroom (Trametes versicolor) surrounding my property that I collect them to make tea.
It is only available on dead oak tree trunks in the rainy winter season in Northern California.
It is not really tasty but for health benefit according to Wikipedia.
Any thoughts?

I have them all over my woods too. I also use it for health benefits...

This thread scares me. I’d say unless you really know what you are looking at leave it alone for the same reasons you don’t check for a loaded gun by looking down the barrel and pulling the trigger.

dodge man - you are so very correct. Unless you have a death wish - leave what you don't know alone. There are lots of mushrooms that do not give you a second chance.

We have lots of mushrooms growing wild around our place. My wife was super skeptical until I cooked up a bunch of morels I found growing. They were so good. Now she wants to eat every mushroom we find. So we eat oyster mushrooms and lobster mushrooms, except the lobster mushrooms give me the trots, so I don't eat them. Well, not the red ones. Which are red from another fungus eating the main fungus, which doesn't bother me. We also eat wild chanterelles. And some boletes. Which are very good. But I am super careful, it is not worth it to need a kidney transplant. There is a mushroom which we have growing here called Amanita Muscaris. It grows in many places. If you eat it you will get high. And get sick too. But if you let the reindeer eat them first and then drink their urine you get high without getting sick. The reindeer have a good time and then you can too. I just wonder who figured out the whole drinking reindeer urine thing. People are weird.

A sad story about mushrooms.

My first wife died of mushroom poisoning, it was terrible and she suffered until the end. My second wife died of a skull fracture. She just would not eat those mushrooms. Later.

I grew up hunting morels and love them.. I look forward every year for morel season. A few years back I grew an interest in the other wild mushrooms that grow around me. So what I did was join some wild mushroom groups and started educating myself on the various ones that are favorites. I learned how to identify them, learned the dangerous lookalikes, and learned how to spore print. Eating wild mushrooms can be safe if you go about it with half a brain and some education. I now know and can easily identify the most popular and best eating mushrooms that grow in my area and I appreciate all of them for there beauty.
Some of my favorites are oysters mushrooms which are extremely common in my woods, Elm oysters, chantrels, lions mane, turkey tail, chicken of the woods, Hen of the woods, and lobsters. Fry up some oyster mushrooms and you'll swear you're eating a yellow morel.
