"The last thing that drives me crazy is the assumption that people are less than honest because they do a certain thing for a living."

I agree with you Kootch88. That and people who make straw-man arguments to bolster their position.:)

The ad hominem I just ignore so those don't bother me.

JD,

You asked about crediblity, as a year old "newbie" TBNer, this is my take on the question:

Credible input or infromation posted, in my mind is not based on Screen Names or amount of personal information shared. As, I have learned more about tractors and farming in general have come to TBN and asked enough questions to make a saint swear. Every response I have recieved to date has been useful, some by telling me what to do, some telling me what not to do, some by encouraging, some by making me want to do it for spite. However, none of the answers I have ever recieved were not believable.

Now, if you are asking what irritates me about certain TBNers, most have been listed above and need not be rehashed.

For the record not that you asked, I like most all the threads, some pertain more to my skill level and interests, but I have learned about things I have never thought I would thought to ask about. Also, I would gladly meet anyone that I have conversed with at length on TBN. I have been invited to stop in to a few farms, as I travel for work and also have offered to help a TBNer stack his hay, when he needed a hand. In 1999 I had a couple from Australlia stay 3 weeks with me after meeting her on a game of backgammon. If any of you are visiting DC this summer, please drop me a PM, I make a great tour guide.

Thats my 2 cents :D

For me, any member here who doesn't provide their real name or hides behind a false alias is usually dismissed straight out as a troll, fake or flake. More so if they hide behind a facade of where they live, ie: "anywhere and everywhere" or those who claim to have "any number of tractors", etc. Those here who put an honest name and their own face and location on TBN will have more credibility to me than a hundred trolls or fakes combined. Too bad TBN does NOT require something like Facebook registration to qualify for membership here.

I just looked at the first post of this thread...

JD...I totally disagree with you...if you feel that way...then never read my posts because in this cyber world I will never put my real name or precise location out on the internet...I actually can't believe you posted this...TBN would lose the majority of its members if what you posted was required... In fact, I am offended by your post.

It really depends on the content of their threads over a period of time. You'll know soon enough if they're a faker, troll or full of bull.

Although I use my real name, I do understand why others want to maintain their anonymity (mostly because they're wanted criminals...)

i agree with the posts will show you who is real. and i'm glad they stopped that show out, australias most wanted ;)
cheers stuart

What makes a TBN members input LESS credible to you?

Numerous constant posts that have nothing to do with tractors.

While a tractor is part of my life, my life does not revolve around my tractor. This thread was posted in Other Forums-Related Topics. I can ignore them if I please.

So much to read ... anything from a darn pet pig ... to a broken bed. How to fix a broken part, help me ID this and so on.

Common sense tells us if the poster post an answer related to the queston ... well it may or may not be the answer.... if they say just put baling wire around it or get a new fitting ... I've seen first time posters answer questions with good answers so post count to me doesn't mean much.

For me that's what makes TBN interesting. I may have to get a pig just to keep up with Eddie.

The poster who is anonymous and the first and usually only post is to complain about or flame a manufacturer or vendor. The good thing is they don't stick around or their thread gets pulled. I would like to know a little about the poster's background such as where they are located generally and their equipment so I have a frame of reference to respond to their question. I am in Texas and have NH so if they want to find a good Kioti dealer and they are located in Ohio I won't waste my time on the question.

After 14 years here, and no particular plans to my tractor in the immediate future I tend to look and comment more at non tractor stuff.

What makes a TBN members input LESS credible to you?

Numerous constant posts that have nothing to do with tractors.

I think tractors form a part of the way most of us live. Most people that have one...and live a more rural type of life.

Really...I think we all gather here because we share that rural way of life, and things are laid back with like souls. We all sooner or later have the same problems we can share with others that have already overcome them and can share.

I can't really say what makes a person less credible if they are honest about knowing or not knowing something.
