DMCarty is a former LEO too; forget the others, but there are several.

When I was working, by law my information was unavailable even to other Law Enforcement Agencies. If someone ran a 28/29, the response would come back "not on record", so we had to be sure to have all information handy. We became aware of Zabasearch and had to submit requests to have our names removed. It is scary how much information is available out there.

I admit that I have gotten a bit careless since my retirement and need to do some rethinking.

Me too...you are not alone...about a year ago this ID theft and all the things coming out of the govt. got me thinking and reflecting . It is scary how much is out there and I feel sorry , especially for older folks whose kids get them hooked up to a computer and they trust and end up being a victim...

I don't participate in Facebook, Linkedin, or any similar mainstream social media. Any such requirement here will end my participation immediately. Not that I would be missed terribly, I'm sure.

I use LinkdIn for professional purposes, but Facebook is something I will not do. I hate websites that require social media logins and will not use them, period. When you tie websites together like that the amount of identifiable information on you goes up exponentially. I'd still read the posts here if a Facebook login was required, but I'd never login and post!

For my business , I use Linkedin as well...but that is so different than face book and I also ignore any site that requires I log into to facebook or give personal information...

Re-asking old questions. A couple months ago I found someone starting new threads by reposting old questions that other TBNers had already asked, including one of mine. I did a quick search and sure enough, every thread they started had already been asked before, to the exact word by someone else. I flagged the posts, and the offender was quickly removed.

TripleR --- If you notice you, Bird and Me...all former LEOs...I know there are more but I can't remember all of them...but at least the 3 of us do not give all of our personal info....we disclose part..enough so folks know generally where we are and our equipment but no so much as to compromise our security...I think everyone should google their aliases or real names, whatever they use on various blogs or web sites they visit and they may be shocked to find all the information out there about them for anyone, even the bad guys to see...

I did, found "my" obit :confused2:

Most TBN members don't use Facebook. We did some test campaigns to promote our FB page and almost nobody "liked" it.
thats very understandable here on tbn we get info and share info that is very helpful on facebook you get alot of info but all the info and a buck will get you a cup of coffee at the store alot of stuff on fb i just don't need to know.

I'd miss you Rick. Your knowledge is extensive, and you can be fun to get cranked up. Plus, we need you on our side of the scale, so the greenies don't take over. :)

The ones who insist on knowing your full name and home address....How in the world can anyone prove they are actually posting their real name and actual home address ? I guess scan and post a birth certificate and property tax bill would be the only way...

How do you know who may be on this site that may have ulterior motives....? You don't and in this cyber world it is not a good idea to have your name and address and other information floating around in cyber space....you never know who is collecting that information ...For instance, think about tractor or equipment thieves...say they get on this board as a new member ...They can look at what equipment you have, your real name and real address and bingo...You just gave them a list to go by when they burglarize you....

I am not saying just TBN but any web sites....I advise everyone to use caution in what personal information you freely divulge...Just my humble opinion.

Agreed. I would never reveal my full name or address on any internet forum - it's just foolish. I'm even wary of posting a picture here that shows even a portion of my house or barn or other property.

As to the original question, sorry to say but too many typos/grammar/spelling errors do it for me. Makes me want to loose my mind.

Are you guys aware that your info is already out there?? Your IP address can reveal all, from what I have been told. Not sure how you trace them, but I hear it can be done.
