What metal drill bit for putting a Piranha on?

Oh, so you're the guy who QC'd the plane that the 'amatuer' pilots landed too low on approach to the runway this summer?

Nope..that was pilot error, if you recall.
Stuff I'm doing is military....same agency I worked for when we lived in Pennsylvania, just a different client company.

Think you could have done a better job landing that airliner? Maybe you should be a pilot! I reckon the airline is looking for three new air crewmen.

No, not a pilot, can't say I could have done a better job landing, but I might not have done as bad a result either. Unfortunately people died as a result of the crash; could have been much worse too.

Yep...a few feet lower may well have been disastrous...

Roy, you're being a good sport with all this kidding.

We should move on.

Anybody else think Deere's are overrated?

You (and others) are assuming the first hashmark is the "zero"...based upon my experience, I'm assuming the first hashmark is for .100.
Well, reckon we do need the OP to post a picture of that caliper closed.

As I wrote previously, we expect the OP to be able to use his own calipers...

Bingo. I was staying out of this but I have seen both styles. Ones that have a hash mark for zero and ones that don't. Since you haven't seen them closed you don't know which style they are. I solved the problem by only using digital calipers now.

Well a partial follow up.

I "found" (in my basement) a cheopo drill "press" attachment for a power drill.

I clamped that on to the side of the bucket.

Then using a 1/8 cobalt drill bit, started drilling, slow and lubed.

After about 5 minutes I had to go to jut the drill because of lack of length.

But it drilled thru fine. But I didn't have the chuck key to switch bits :(. TBC.

So it looks like the cobalt bit and stand is what I needed.

I wont even address the caliper issue, but would like to know if the actual thickness drilled was any where close to the top measurement. I have never seen a tractor FEL bucket with sides that thick. Likely just a wear edge at the top. I would think more along the lines of 1/4" thickness unless this is a bucket off a big front end loader or industrial back hoe.
