So I picked up the plow I won on Ebay a few weeks back. It was a fun drive down and back, me and my little girl Emmy and I drove the 10.5 hours in one shot, and as I arrive in NC, my alternator gage is reading 11 volts and dropping. I had almost no headlights as I pulled into the Hotel parking lot at 11:30 PM. But thats a side story. I got the truck fixed the next day, and drove out of town with my 2 Bottom plow. As you can see its pretty rusted but appears to be all there. So my question is what do I do next? Soak it in PB blaster, loosen the adjustment mechanism and use it as is or what? One of the points looks kind of worn to me, but what do I know. Also, is this a ford plow as that is what I was told. The photo shows the only markings on it I could find. Also, why is the one mounting pin reversed from the other? I need some educating here, so whatever you can help me with I appreciate it.

All I can say is the remnants of blue paint look like Ford and the tilted pins keep the plow level while your tires ride in the furrow.

Where was it in NC?

Glad you didn't end up stalled on the roadside with the charging problem.

That's a Ford 101. Good plow. I'd take a disc sander (w/fine grit disc) to the moldboards and remove as much rust as possible. Get it down to bare metal. Then start plowing! The bottoms will eventually shine up. Looks like you may need new shins and shares before any serious use.

Thanks to Farmwithjunk, I am familiar with these plows now. Following his good advice I bought a 3 bottom, and made it into a 2 bottom just the other day. I thought my shares were ok, but when I looked closer I found they were worn down to the frogs so I had to replace them along with the shins. You can get new shins, shares, and bolts at TSC, or order them from Agri Supply or Valu-Bilt. All have similar prices but TSC saves you a bundle on shipping. You'll need 12 bolts if you replace the shins and shares, all should be 7/16 x 1 1/4", and probably clipped head rather than plow bolt design. The hardest part will be cutting the rusted bolts off front the backside. Be sure to grease that rolling landside wheel too. I have a couple versions of the owners manual for this ford 101 plow, copied and saved in PDF. I'll try to send it to you in a private message. Good luck.

Ford850,I have the same plow and would sure like a copy of that owners manual pdf. if you get a chance.

Mine looked like that as well, and it took a 100' feet of pullin to wear the rust off and then it worked great and mine is not in as good of shape as that one.

Thanks for the input guys. I got the plow from B&R Equipment in N. Wilkesboro. They operate out of an old 3 bay garage and seem to keep a lot of stuff on the lot and on Ebay. If you're in the area, it may be worth it to drive on over. The story is I asked the tow truck driver to take me over to B&R before he dropped me, Emmy and the truck at the Ford Dealer. It was Sat AM, and I was concerned they would close before I could got over there to pick up the plow. So he towed me into their lot, and we loaded er into my truck. I should have got a picture! Anyway the driver said they sell a lot of stuff locally also.

Mark, thanks a ton for the manual. It looks like just what I need. Not sure If I'll get to the parts replacements before I need to use it. First need to get everything cleaned up, and working. I'll try to let everyone know how the plow works out when I start my foodplots in the next month or so. Thanks again.

It doesn't take long to replace the parts. Without coulters flopping around on there, you could filp the pow on it's side and get to the backside easily. Even with an angle grinder and cutting disk, as long as you can get to the bolts it would probably take less than 15 minutes to cut all the bolts. Putting the new parts on is easy. It sure brings a smile to your face when you're done.

Silverking - I couldn't add an attachement to a PM, so I had to email the manual to drivadesl. If you'd like a manual, please PM me your email address. You can also find a copy divided into many links at this page: FORD SERIES 101 PLOW

How was B&R to deal with? I watch their auctions every week and have been very tempted to make the long trip on more than one occasion. I have seen some real bargains from them.
