It would be good to have a reinforced area for an overhead hoist.

Aside from making it bigger it would have a bathroom. That probably wasn't feasible due to septic level, but a sink would still be a significant improvement. Above adequate lighting would be a plus. 3 phase power would be a plus. A 2 post lift would be a plus. I have a hoist on a 10 foot boom. A hoist with an increase range would be nice.

Hello,
An 80' x80' is a big building. I guess it's going to be only 1 floor. I recently built a 36' x40' 2 story garage workshop combination so I can appreciate the size of your building. <snip>I have 12 4 bulb T8 fixtures, each one using 128 watts. That's 1536 watts being used when all the lights are on....it's like running a 1500 watt heater. I also did it the same way in my upstairs woodworking shop.<snip>
Pretty much forget anything except lot's of LED, unless you need the heat :).

<snip>
What about Skylights? My metal building buddy is agains them, wants me to put clear plastic under the eaves instead. Saddly our property is north facing with a hill to the south so pumping up natural light is a plus.

And as I noted in my original post, this is not just for me, I think there is a lot of great ideas to share in this group.

As a former roofer skylights are GREAT, provides lot's of income for patching small leaks :)

Unless you have a thatch roof or live in a desert EVERY hole should be avoided. Each new seam is a potential source of leaks.

Also please start providing pics of site and drawings :)

Try to allow room for office space and a parts room.
