Robert,
When you had your Allis's, did you go to Darrin's site allischalmers.com?I used to lurk there and learned a ton about my D-12 from them "orange nuts".I still sometimes have regrets about selling her, wished I woulda kept and restored her.

Thomas,
The way you described starting was just like my ol D-12.She was 6 volt and would wah, waaaah, waaaaaaah,(sounded like battery went dead) then kachug, purr....
Another fun part about her was no live PTO, when first couple of times bush hoggin with her hit a couple a trees, pressed clutch but she would keep going.Got good at poppin her into neutral then standing up on the brakes to be able to stop.

I've got two of those WD-45's at home Robert. They were the tractors that I grew up using as a kid on the ranch. My grandfather was going to sell them and I begged him to let me buy them. He gave them both to me. I just haven't had the time to go home and get them. Then again I may just leave them there. They're not worth alot, although they're in excellent shape, but they have one heck of alot of sentimental value.

I use to, then I lost all my bookmarks and it is taking a while to get them all back. Don't know how I found half those sites to begin with. I had a lot of fun with the WD 45 as it didn't have power steering and you had to definitely work to turn it. Great disking tractor though and I am thinking about getting her back. Who knows, I have trouble finding time for the tractors I do have.

He is an 8pt this year, last year he was a 10pt. Same food and everything but he lost a couple for no reason. I will have to get some better pic's when I paint the M with our bigger bucks then I will think about making a postcard.

I sure would like to get the 1947 2N that used to belong to my father. Our old neighbor bouhgt it from my mother in 1969 when my dad pasted away. It has been kept inside since at least 1959 & is all orginal (still 6 volt) & has never had the engine overhauled - unbelievable... This old familty friend (89 yrs young) is talking about selling some of his stuff so maybe I might have a chance at it. I wish I could pay the same that he paid - $200 i think. He is reluctant to sell his equipment & tools because I think that to him, this would be admitting that he is old...

Just a couple of factors. If last winter was a harsh one for the 8 pointer the antlers growth will decline..or he has past his prime..maybe you have another buck thats move into your area.
The best way to really find out,if you can locate the shed antlers for two years in a row, than closely look at them.

Maybe name your painting Deer vs Deere. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
Happy New Years.

Hey Robert....why Whitetail???

Just curious, why did you decide to raise whitetail instead of elk,red deer or elk-red cross? Do you have to compete against them for meat sales? That's one thing I always wondered about with all of the different sepecie of cervids. At least I only have to worry about competing against the cattle beasts, not each other to boot!!

Is cwd something you have to worry about in your area? It is up here west of Ontario.

He is in a pen and the only other bucks are is buck fawns till we move them. Like I said he is in a controled enviroment and hasn't been sick or injured. He was a 4pt at 1.5, 6 pt at 2.5, 10 pt at 3.5 and now a 8 pt at 4.5. He has more mass this year then last but didn't even throw any bumps where his G5's were last year. Just a stange year, have to see what he will do next year.

Re: Hey Robert....why Whitetail???

CWD is a main concern of all farmers and luckily we have not had a problem in New York yet but it is in the back of our minds. We chose whitetails because it is one of our favorite animals. In our area of New York we do not have many other large game animals mostly Whitetails and black bear in the hills. There are a couple elk farmers now but one raises for the antlers and the other sells to preserves. We raise them mostly to sell for breeding stock on other farms and have never sold to a preserve and hopefully won't have to but it all depends on how the market plays out. As far as the meat market it hasn't really been established in our area yet and to haul these animals to a slaughter house would be next to impossible because of their high strung nature. We hope to stay small enough that we don't get stuck with too many animals in case something ever happens and right now we have around 45 head with 17 does in breeding. Some day I would like to get a couple caribou or elk but I have trouble keeping up with what I have now. Have a great New Years.

Re: Hey Robert....why Whitetail???

We sell scent under the name Deerslayer Scents. There are a lot of scent companies now and you will not get rich doing it but we look at it like this. Any scent we sell helps pay for the deers food which is the biggest expenditure each year other than fencing, we enjoy raising them so we do not mind having a bunch of animals if it doesn't cost us a forturne to raise them.

Thanks for starting this forum out, Paul! I've been begging for it for a long time. I'm off line for a few days, and now there are so many changes including this forum!! I posted this before, but this is the appropriate place to post my picture of my 1951 Ferguson TO-20. it's a working tractor, and my only tractor, and I use it for mowing, brushing hogging, landscape raking, spreading manure, snow removal, and other things I can't even think of!! I will soon be in the market for another tractor, approximately 60 hp, and you can bet it will be a vintage tractor also!!

Here is a picture of my old 1952 Case DC-4. I don't use it much anymore since I got my 4300, but I sure comes in handy when the JD gets stuck in the mud. (It's never my fault.... Honest!)/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif It has a 3ph, live PTO, live hydraulics, hand clutch, about 40 HP and weighs a little over 6000 lbs without balast in the rear wheels. This tractor is built super heavy duty, the front wheel rims are cast iron and weigh 130 lbs each./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Sure likes to drink the gas though.
