What's a fair price for a Kubota L47 TLB that sat on the dealer lot for 3 years?

My guess is that it wasn't exercised monthly and was only run when they needed to move it to make room for something else. Sitting equipment doesn't age well. Seals start to crack and corrosion forms on electrical contacts. Pricing should be adjusted accordingly and all the filters and fluid should be replaced even the radiator fluid and the battery.

I bought my L47 brand new less than six months ago for about 50k with some options, rear remotes, 3rd function, extendable lower link, extendable stabilizers 3 pt kit, etc. The tractor and the backhoe were purchased separately a month apart, from two different dealers.
That alone, I would think, would add to the expense. I thought the price was ok, but not exceptional.

When I was looking the dealer had three units left from an order of five. I was there last week and all were gone from the lot, so people are buying them.
I suspect the only reason your dealer has had that unit for three years, is the price.

It could be as mentioned, location, location, location.

Local dealer in Fairbanks, AK has a Kubota L47 Tractor Loader Backhoe that I'm thinking about. It's sat on their lot for 3 years and has 5.5 hours on it. Sales guy says everyone buys the mini excavators instead. This TLB would suit my needs just fine, although not as convenient as the mini ex, but then I'd have buy a skid steer as well. Really all I will be doing is screwing around on my property. Sales guy said normal price was around 63k but mentioned 57k without being asked.

What do you guys think would be a reasonable offer and are there any services I should request the dealer to perform on their dime since it sat for 3 years? They claim to have started it and moved it around once a month.

I'll also be buying a PTO mower, grapple, and a set of forks.

Does it have a hydraulic thumb, or 3rd function?
I assume not!

If it has been sitting on the lot for 3 years, a few other interested folks have already passed on a deal.
All things considered (even with the tractor being in Alaska), I would make the dealer a one time 45K cash offer (if you can do cash) and be prepared to walk away.
No negotiating!
If you don't have cash, maybe borrow it from your bank on a home equity loan?
If you change your mind on the price after a few weeks, you can always go back.

After 3 years of sitting, there could be more than a few issues.(leaks?)
Will the dealer do a pre-delivery inspection/repair and free complete change of fluids and filters? (you should mark the existing filters first)
Will he give you a 1yr. (or more?) written bumper to bumper warranty?

I too do not believe the BS that it was run every month.
However: In 3 years that would mean 36 starts, for a total of 8.3 MINUTES run time for each start.
Those short runs are likely worse than no starts at all.

It does have the third function valve and hydraulic thumb, however their formal quote they sent me this morning was $59,100. :/

I would politely tell them that you are not interested at that price.
It has only been sitting there for three years so far.
There is obviously is not a list of potential buyers waiting in the wings
Maybe they need another year or so to think about it.

You showed some interest, so at $59,100 they are just throwing out some Arctic char bait.
Don't bite!
I know stuff is expensive in Alaska, but $59,100 is WAY too much money for what it has now become, after sitting around for three years.

If you can get it at 50K OTD, perhaps OK.
If not .....move on!

Agreed. The unit has been sitting which is just another form of abuse. At 5 hours in 3 years the dealer never got the engine warm enough to burn off any accumulated moisture in the system and might have made things worse with multiple short runs.

The unit is now costing the dealer to sit there on his lot as he now has to make payments on it. Id bargain hard with cash and be prepared to walk away. If the dealer is hurting for business and is ready to drop his shorts you might get a great deal. If not, go buy the machine you really want and let someone else buy this bag of kittens.

^^^^^ EXACTLY!!!!

id bargain but cash doesnt mean anything, most honest dealers will tell you that. Doesnt have the ring it used to.

I’ve tried unsuccessfully with cash. The only way you’re getting out of tax is with a farm card.

I suspect that cash actually WILL have some meaning in this particular case, for a 3 year old "new" tractor.
How long will the dealer want to keep holding on, holding on?

The answer to that question has no bearing on whether the buyer writes a check or finances the purchase.
