Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Don,

After all this time, I am hoping you got your "Bota" out of the woods and found out what the malfunction was.

We are still here offering our moral support and also wanting to hear what happened.

I kinda got the idea we were embarrasing you by being so interested in your predicament but we certainly mean you no harm. We all learn from the experiences of others and try to prevent ourselves from suffering the same fate. Operating a tractor some times is a humbling experience.

I hope this problem has been solved already for you but we would still like an update.

Gary

Just got back from a ten-day driving vacation down as far as New Orleans and then Florida and back.

What am I thinking about along the way, especially in N.C. and W. VA?

About smokymountainman's tractor, naturally!

And now I get home and find the saga continues!

Good luck guy!

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

This is the new mexican soap opera, " 'bota 4610". It goes on and on like a made for TV movie- a 15 minute story crammed into 3 hours or 100 posts!

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

it's extremely steep there...emergency brake can't hold it on it's own without bucket teeth firmly in ground.

I wonder if the hill is so steep that the hydro is picking up air. What if you put your bucket in the dumped position and pick up the front of the tractor some. Try to level off the tractor somewhat to see if you get some reponse from the hydro.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

The tractor is already high in front so unless Kubota
has downpressure on 3 PT. he can't level it.

Come on a couple more posts and get to 100.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Smkymtn man,

I've followed this thread since the beginning and have been wondering, if a heavy duty stretch-n-snatch may have been a possible alternative to chains to pull the Kubota out.

Chains don't give at all, which is, at times, what you want. But in this situation, it seems that if your neighbors tractor could have developed momentum before the weight of the Kubota was applied to it you may have been able to move it.

I've seen a little Toyota pull a full size truck out of some goey mud using a stretch-n-snatch.

I know winches of all sorts have been mentioned, but I would also add in some snatch blocks, at least one. Two may be even more appropriate. They (snatch blocks) slow down the pull, but they also increase the load capacity of the winch.

Good luck -- I've had to leave my truck and hike out for help myself. It's like leaving part of the family behind. Keep us informed.

Clint.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

This does remind me of a friend of my sons who had this big bad 3/4 ton pickup with the big 33'' tires lift etc. They decided one day to take it down my hill, everybit as steep as smokeymtnmans (220' drop in about 500') Long story short truck sat down at the bottom of hill for two weeks (while the kid had to walk to school) We tried everything, comealongs, quads, other trucks, etc. Didn't move it 15' up, seams it was to muddy and truck weighed to much, and as it turned out no positraction either axel (really 2wd) Finally one day his dad came up with 2 true 4wd trucks and 500' of rope, we pulled it up by starting on flat part of hill and outweighting it. Still it was alot of fun all that mud flying and planning our next move. I am sure this has got past the fun by now though 3+ weeks. Haven't heard anything lately from Smokeymtnman, this could be good or bad!!!!!

smokeymtnman sent his last post on the 16th. 11 days ago.
I think he has decided he doesn't want the board watching his adventure or else he left everything behind and went to Vegas til spring.

I hope everything is ok with him though.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

No, I'm still alive over here. I've got satellite internet and had a few problems with it.
and No, I'm not embarrassed by this post. I've got sense enough to know when I need help and advice. Heck, I'd rather be embarrassed and get my tractor back to working than to be a 'cool dude' without a tractor.
About the only embarrassing thing is..."What was he doing over there in such a place to begin with?" which is a darn good question.
I've had snow up to the middle of the wheels on it, then the thaw and slush, then frozen ground and had a dozer man promise me he would be over but he never showed up...then we've had the rain and now it's really muddy and slick here..lots of red clay on this place.
Well drilling company has been trying to get my pump for my pond working and they've got stuck twice with their rigs and trucks. I was sort of hoping they might have to bring a DOZER to get them out....I had plans for that on the side if they did.
but anyway..nothing's changed here...tractor's covered with a tarpaulin and still same place.

was just thinking ......one could print out all these posts....make a real nice service manual.
