Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

EagleEye,

Anybody have a wooden solution (like the wooden dollys)?

Here is my "wooden solution". It's cheap (free actually) and no assembly required. It I had the luxury of storing it on concrete, I would add casters. Since some of my implements are stored on dirt, casters wouldn't work well...instead, I just "fork" them around as needed.

A pallet is not my ultimate solution, but works OK for the time being.

Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

Gary, Thanks for the idea... sounds similar to what a couple of the other guys are doing... In my case, I like a solution I can put on a dolly because I don't have a barn (yet /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif) so I am using my garage which (as building codes go around here) means that it's finished and there aren't any exposed beams (I know I can set something up but need the mobility to move things around (even though it's a 3 car, it's cramp).

Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

Glenn, I like the way you put that ...."geezerhood"... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Heck, I'm only 39 and each day I get reminded of my human condition, senior moments (I know but hey, it's all relative), and imperfections by my employees, my friends, and of course, my family.

The way I see it, I need to leave that auger on so I don't kill myself any quicker... In my case, an occasional bonk on the head might help! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

OkieG, that's what we did when I was growing up on the farm.... I have come to find that my general lack of ambition drives me to strive a more ...... "facilitative" solution /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif..... Heck man, that looks like to much lifting and work. The good lord knows that I do plenty of work already (my wife is a slave driver ...but I love her). I sure as sugar water attracts bees don't need any more lifting to do... I just came in and it's after 10pm. Thanks for the idea though. I appreciate every one of them!!!!

Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

Hey guys:

ya you got to be careful those PHD's will wrap up and bonk you good if not carefull also take arms and legs and bend them at odd angles where they weren't ment to be bent! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

anyhow I feel for the older age, I'm fast approaching that 40 yr mark and thinkg seem to be 4 times harder each year!?!? you have to think of better ways for sure.

I'm reminded of an old qute not sure who said it but was tomething like thins.

Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

Mark, I have one patent to prove your point /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (from back when I was a programmer)...

I'm also on the precipice of 40 and would like to make it to a 3 digit live time... I think it requires some smarts, good eating, positive thinking, and smart (note the intelligence required) exercise to get there... oh yea, and a whole lotta GOD WILLING LUCK /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually guys, I have another question. I bought my PHD at TSC and I have used it a couple times now... I have noticed that when I go down with the auger the bar you use from the drivers seat to stabilize the auger will bend against the A arm supporting the boom.... Why is this (is it normal)? And, what should I do to adjust (I tried the three different A arm adjustment holes but it still happens).

Re: What\'s the best way to store a Post Hole Digge

EagleEye:

Finally got the pics. Had to crop to keep within the 100k file limit. This set-up is quick, easy and relatively painless. You could, of course, make them as fancy as wanted. These are light weight, the arms are held together with simple gussets, the concave cut at top was done with simple jig-saw. You can lean the supports up against anything when not in use. The only limitation is you can't move it around. On the other hand the thing is ready for easy mount when needed. Just back up attach pins & PTO shaft. I keep mine stored outside covered by tarp as don't want to build a machine storage shed here as plan on moving. Can't believe some of the comments by those living in **** occupied America about not being able to store your own stuff on your own property however you want.

JEH

PS The PHD is a 50 year old Danuser F series. Bot at auction for $450 (new ones-they still build to the same quality-are $1500-$1700). I have visited their factory in Fulton, Mo-it's run by the grandson of the founder & the company has been around since 1910 and they've been building these since 1943. Only thing wrong was a seal. When I took the head apart, the gears showed no wear & the spindle gear was nearly 12" in diameter, the castings were excellent, etc. This is one lifetime (actually many lifetimes) piece of equipment.
