What's your diesel engine oil?

Doc,
not sure about running different oils. Once I run an oil in a machine I usually stick with it for the life of the machine if I can.

Most manufacturers even advise that, has to do with wear patterns of different oils.

Subaru told me if you go to syn. then stay with it. I run Mobil 1 in my Outback and I ran Castrol syn in my Toyota to the tune of over 250k miles, cam shaft showed no wear. Car rusted to death. Sub zero starting no problems.

bob,
I had been under the impression that one shouldn't switch between syn and dino. In fact I am nervous about switching between 5w and 10w

I'm thinking of running Mobil 1, 0W-40 oil in my Deere. I'm presently running it in my Subaru Outback with good results. I live in the mountains of upstate NY and we get very cold weather here, well below zero although not in the last couple of years.

What I have found in my cars is that 10W-30 gives better fuel mileage but I like the 40 for hotter temps in the summer.

My Kubota B7510HST manual recommends 10W30 or 10W40 diesel rated motor oil. Can't find that stuff around here. So after running it by the TBNers I use Shell Rotella 15W40 dino which is available at NAPA, WallyMart.

Here in the North Valley the temp swing goes from 30F to about 110F. So the lower viscosity stuff is not that important.

Shell Rotella "T" 5w-40 in all of 'em, from the X595 to the 310D. Didn't even know it existed 'til I started hanging around here. It's not a "true" synthetic, but, my stuff doesn't seem to care.

I had heard that. But, too me, oil is oil. Synthetic for cold weather (improved flow) and dino for the hot days of summer.

Currently using Mystik JT-8 10W-30 synthetic blend. This is the oil I changed to from the factory oil at 50 hours. I will probably go with Rotella T 5W-40 synthetic. next oil change.

Why Rotella versus Mystik?
