Its being whispered about....that you have a Harbor Freight 90 amp-115V MIG setup on order. Any truth to that?.....

This explains so much! I could not figure out why Dargo had so many problems with Possums. Now I know. He is buying his Possum Beating Bats (PBBs) at HF and they just can't Get R Done. If he bought PBBs from Snap On or at least Craftsman he might be able to tangle with the Fearsome Possums! And Win!:D

Tractors-Cenex 15W-40, all year long
3208 Cat- Cenex 15W-40, all year long
NTC 290 & 300- Walmart 15W-40 (Hey, when a oil change takes 6 gallons......it's seasonal use only...)

Doesn't get cold enough to worry about using anything else.

I think I'm seeing an understandable trend here. Those living in moderate areas don't run the synthetics as much. Those, like myself, living ing colder climates use the synthetics for cold starting.

And I only run synthetic in the winter just for cold weather starting. In the summer I go back to dino oil.

I had been running the Rotella Syn and just switched over to Amsoil HD 15-40 Diesel & Marine Oil. I tried a little experiment with the oil placing a quart in the freezer overnight to observe it's flow rate in the cold and I was pleasantly surprised. It poured very well compared to regular dino 15-40. I went with this oil since I'll put 200+/- hrs a year on the tractor and I'll just change it once a year. I figure I'll have good cold start up lubrication and also be protected on those July afternoons with the shredder.

I'm using Cenex Maxtron synthetic blend fluids in my Branson 4020. Hydraulic fluid has outstanding cold flow characteristics, (it's a real pretty blue which is easy to see in the sight glass). For motor oil I use the 5w40 in winter and 15w40 in summer and the Maxtron grease w/moly seems to work as good as anything else I've tried.
I bought about a 3 yr. supply of their product last spring just for the tractor.

If I had to worry about cold starts and had access to electricity where I parked my equipment I'd get a block heater.

Oil pan heater. They are worried about lubrication, the flow of the oil to the engine when cold. Most when there is a coolent heater, the heat stays in the engine for starting.... but the oil pan, at times, stays cold, takes that little 'extra' to get to all the parts.

if you just heat the oil, the oil might flow easier but the engine still wont be all that EZ to start due to the cold cylinders . if you heat the water jacket it warms the whole engine block. the rest takes care of itself.

either way, anything is better than nothing. mostly depends on climate.
