I am in the Central Cal valley where Summers easily exceed 110°+ daily for several months. Winters are mild and rarely gets down to 32°.
It has performed well in the searing heat providing excellent oil pressure, but still allows quick starts on cold days (for us).

You call that cold???? NOT! :D That is T-shirt weather in Wisconsin.

Doc,
It was 97° in Los Angeles yesterday. That's what I mean, 32° is rare out here where I live. That's why I opted for the higher viscosity. The low end is still great in that formula. I ran Rotella 5w40 synthetic but noticed decreased oil pressure on very hot days. I run Rotella in my 94' Blazer all the time ... 187,000 miles now with supercharger. Still runs strong. That would be my 2nd choice for the tractor.

I went to school in Redlands, Ca. I vaguely remember the smudge pots in the orange groves (when California still had orange trees) when it got close to freezing.

I dont se much benefit in a synthetic oil in a Diesel engine unles you are going to do oil analysis and go to exended drain intervals.

opinion based from my experience in a 1000 vehicle diesel powered fleet.
we use synthetic gear and trany oils, just never found a cost versus benefit for synthetic diesel engine oil.

Shel rotella, Mobil Delvac, Delo, all have performed well.

I will run it so that when it is 20 degrees ouside I can start my tractor with less effort and better lubrication when cold. If I lived in a warm climate (WI does not qualify during winter) or ran my tractor 24 hours a day, I would not bother.

It's a good thing that I can take it as well as dish it out. If not, that dead horse in my avatar would get up and open a can of whoop arse on those smiley guys and everybody else! ;) :)

I think I'm gonna need therapy now. I'm gonna blame the pile on gang at TBN. Heck, I'm going to go out to my barn and weld the ends back on the Pittsburgh wrenches that broke on me. Push me more and I'll even cover them with duct tape! Now when I need the names, I can't think of them, but I'll just stock up on those tool kits you can buy at truck stops. You know the kind where you get 502 pieces for something like $9.95. They gotta be high quality! Ha! I know, I'll start using the motor oil at Casey's gas stations that is just marked "Casey's 10W30". Yeah! That'll work! I'll use it for 25k drain intervals too!

See what you guys have created?!

Shhh! With all the "toys" I have now, I couldn't swing the 90 amp unit; had to go smaller.
