Why Rotella versus Mystik?
Bob
I wanted a 10W-30 oil because that's what the owners manual recomended. After more research I like the 5W-40 synthetic oils. Localy both can easily be found. (and Mystik is made in Oklahoma). I have no problems switching brand name of oils. For 30 years I have been buying the oil on sale as long as it's the right API rating and weight. Never had an oil related problem.

I am in the Central Cal valley where Summers easily exceed 110°+ daily for several months. Winters are mild and rarely gets down to 32°.
I use Mobil1 15w50 synthetic year round in my Kama 554. It has performed well in the searing heat providing excellent oil pressure, but still allows quick starts on cold days (for us). I have over 250 hours using it now and had great results. I do change oil and filter every 100 hours.

I just left my Sam's Club and, because it was about the cheapest oil anywhere, I bought a case (6 one gallon containers) of Rotella T for $35. I have some older, not particularly expensive, engines I figure I'll run it in. Hopefully I won't get bit for running an elcheapo oil. Knowing my luck, I'll have my first engine seize.

You just joined the crowd of hundreds of thousands of over the road truck drivers using the exact same oil!!! The only one's of them I see alongside the highway is because of flat tires!!

We wont count at LEAST an equal number of farmers using it in their tractors and such!

I feel like I'm in an AA meeting; admitting that I now have bought oil based on price alone. See, I'm standing now "Hi, I'm Dargo" (crowd "hi Dargo"). "I now admit that I've fallen to peer pressure and bought Rotella T because of the price." Now, at this point, does the crowd throw rotten fruit at me or console me?

I run 10w-30 Amsoil diesel oil with NAPA gold filters in my Cub 7532. Seems to work fine.

*throwing my arm over Dargo* Now, now good buddy. It's going to be OK. Rotella isn't ALWAYS the cheapest way to go. I woulda thought you were a Rotella guy before now with yer beefed up rides and such. I don't run anything but Rotella in my diesel pickups. Costs me a little more when I pay for service because I specify, but that's what was ALWAYS run in the big trucks I drove and they take more abuse than any pick up I'll own. This is just one more step you are taking coming over from the Darkside. You're going to own a Kioti, a Montana AND a Mahindra before long. :D

No reason to run in it cheap engines (is there such a thing as a cheap engine??). Good oil and no reason to worry.
