Re: Where is these Tractors built?

I believe the 5100 series John Deere's are made in India. Get the globe out, it's a geography lesson. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

"Get the globe out, it's a geography lesson."

Yes it is, the compacts are usually non-USA. Are the longs and farmtracs american?

Ya :

something I've always laughed in the last few years.

got a lot of greif for buying a china built tractor (JINMA) and my boss bought his JD's. built in Japan (YANMAR) and the big ones all the castings were made in India. well well well. lol. his little "LAWN MOWER" 2010 cost ihm almost 11K, my 28 hp 4whl drive tractor, with Loader, back how tiller and 3pt finish mower was less than his lawn mower! ROFLMAO all the way to the bank...

In many cases, this just means that final assembly and testing were done in the USA.

I used to work for a telecom supplier. They had a product that was designed and built in Tel Aviv, Israel. But they then broke down the systems and shipped them to NY, where they were reassembled and tested. They were labeled "Made in the USA". This is how they were able to sell into Middle Eastern countries that would not buy from Israel.

Re: Where is these Tractors built?

The badge-engineered Longs come from different manufacturers in different countries:

LongTrac-UTB Romania (previous partial owner of Long)
LandTrac-LG Korea
FarmTrac-Escorts India (now full owner of Long Agri LLC)

Over the years Long has sold tractors from Nuffield/Leyland UK,Landini Italy,Ursus Poland, and others .

Re: Where is these Tractors built?

One thing you forget though. Who eventually is going to be able to afford to buy all these tractors, cars, washing machines, etc. If we keep sending high paying factory and management jobs to foreign countries there will come a point where we will be in trouble. We already are for that matter.

At least when you buy JD the profits come back here to the US. The management, engineers, etc. all get those profits as well as the stockholders. Very little profit actually goes to the country that mfg. the item, whether it is a part or the whole tractor. The tractors are all designed and built to JD specs. US engineers and managers oversee the operations in other countries. No I don't like it but at least the lions share of profits are not going to that country but coming here.

You may be laughing all the way to the bank today but will you be laughing 10 years from now? Hard to say.

Re: Where is these Tractors built?

Well put the blame on unions for making all those jobs go overseas...they are killing this country.

Well put the blame on unions for making all those jobs go overseas...they are killing this country. I believe rumors of this country's death are greatly exaggerated. JMHO. Unions didn't make *all these jobs go overseas* Cheap labor did. Child labor did, and unsafe, despicable working conditions did. Do you want to make a hundred and twenty-six dollars a month? That is want a Manufacturing Supervisor makes in a country like Pakistan. How about India where JD makes some of the 5000 series. How about making less than two thousand dollars a year. Sound good to you? I bet in India and Pakistan the workers have fantastic benefits also. I'll tell you what, are YOU willing to pay 50 thousand dollars for a new John Deere compact?? You're not?? Then maybe, just maybe YOU are sending the work overseas to cheap labor, and NOT the unions...Call up JD and tell them to double the price of all their equipment and you (and other, LOTS of others) will gladly pay it. You may not know this but *Unions* consist of a group of every day, Joe Lunchbox type guys and gals. Problably a lot like the folks on this board. If they vote to send a job overseas, who do they blame? The *Union*?? The union is the people so blame yourselves. Flame suit is on and zipped tight /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, oh!

Sounds like we are getting a bit off track in this thread now... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The waters we are starting to sail in can be rough, predictable and of little use to the original poster I fear... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
