Where does your dog ride in the vehicle ?

I have two irish wolfhounds...........the question for me is not where they sit but how much room they will take up........haha........I have a minivan where I have removed the middle and last row of seats so it's just an open space........the female stands in the middle behind the two front seats so she can look out the front window to see where we're going.....the male lays down against the rear hatch until we stop at a light or stop sign.....and then he stands up and looks out the rear window........the look on the peoples faces in the car behind is priceless as he fills up the window.

Use to have a suv but it wasn't as tall inside and when the iw's would stand up their backs would press against the ceiling turning the dome light on and off........after replacing several dead batteries from the dome light being left on I decided a change in dogs or a change in vehicles was necessary......the dogs won out.....haha.......Jack

Our German shepherd never wanted to ride in the car (SUV) and I had to force him in when taking him to the vet. I bought a used motorhome last summer and as soon as I pulled in and opened the door he scrambled inside, put his nose in every room then sat down in the passenger seat. I had a time getting him out. We took him with us on a trip up to Virginia and back thru Pennsylvania and Ohio then back down thru Tennessee and back to Bismark, Ark. His spot was setting on the engine cover housing and drooling on the dash but when he was tired he curled up on the sofa which he never does at home. Every time we stopped for fuel or food, he perched in the drivers seat to wait for us to return. We got a lot of folks coming up to look at him. He is a very beautiful, black with tan markings and much bigger than most German Shepherds @120#. He looks a bit like a black bear with a long tail.
NOW, every time the car door opens he tries to get in. When we take him, I fold down the rear seat on one side so he can come up to the front seat if he wants but mostly he just stays by the back window looking out.

i thought this was a tractor forum? my dog goes EVERYWHERE with me and rides anything with me. even when i go to friends property 4 miles away and when digging. that's a faithful dog!!!!! ps 20lb boston terrior

Two Jacks with booster seats and harnesses in the back seat. The booster seats allows them to see out the windows in a reclined position, lol. When momma is with us, lol. Gumper the male likes to sit on my knee looking out window. The problem is the nose prints gives him away to the boss. After a bit he goes an sleeps in the passenger seat. I know it is bad so I try to only do it on back roads, and such.

I'll be the Scrooge. My dog loves to ride. But I'd never allow him to ride on my lap while I drove. For some reason it really bugs me to see a vehicle coming at me with a dog hanging it's head out of the driver's door window. So how exactly does the driver control the steering wheel during a evasive situation in that position???

Ovrszd, I don't think you're a Scrooge at all for deterring the idea of one's favorite friend riding in his or her lap while driving. I can attest first hand to that hazard. I had - note HAD, a relative that allowed her Chihuahua ride in her lap. She encountered an emergency situation, dog got tangle up in the steering wheel, she while trying to protect the dog, had a head-on crash that killed her. Sad...

I allow my two Toy Rat Terriers to go with my in my truck, but they enjoy either the passenger seat or the back seat. Never in my lap.

My neighbors dog rides on the back platform of his ATV. You can tell the dog enjoys riding there. Saves the dog a lot of running because my neighbor travels great distances check fence lines, lost cattle etc.
