Where to mount a tool box?

Hi Yanmar newbie here! I have a 2210 with FEL that I recently purchased to go along with my Vladimirec T25A (was marketed as a Belarus 250A). I am spoiled by the large toolbox on Ivan (the Vladimirec), so I was trying to find somewhere on Yancey (the Yanmar) to mount something I could carry tools in. I tried a soft tool bag on the fender, but it was too floppy for my liking. Somewhere on the forum, someone had used Harbor Freight magnets on a toolbox and mounted it on the hood. So I started to look and found these large rubber coated magnets with threaded inserts and bolts that were designed to mount light bars to off-road vehicles. I ordered a pair from Amazon and drilled a couple of holes in an ammo can and mounted it, vertically, on my FEL upright. It's not going anywhere! Even loaded down with tools and spare pins and clips it doesn't move regardless of what I drive over. I thought everything might spill out as soon as I opened the lid on the ammo box with it being vertical, but that's not been the case.

This thread started in 2016. There is a 2018 thread mentioned a few post up from yours that you may want to put your info in or start a new one ad this is Oct 2019.
Neat ideal. How would it work mounted using the magnets on the FEL arm? Some of us bigger guys take up pretty much all the space between the fender and the FEL upright getting on and off.

I'd worry it would get ripped off bush hogging and I don't see it untill I hear it banging around under the deck and look for it in its location. Or it falling off while trailering and me loose everything in it.

I would think that would still be somewhat of a concern with where he shows it mounted on the FEL upright with the magnets.
Personally, my toolbox is mounted where my Right side grab bar was at as I can not enter/exit in that side due to the FEL mounted controls.

I welded a pc of 2x2 angle between the uprights of the ROPS and mounted a tool box on the angle.

One caution about applying heat (welding) to your ROPS, this is intended to be a personal safety device. By applying heat to any metal, you are likely to change the strength and brittle factors of the metal.
In real life terms by welding on the ROPS, you may be causing a break point on the ROPS. Instead of supporting the tractor weight in a rollover, it may snap near the weld point.
If you read about things to not do to ROPS, you find 2 big ones. 1) weld to it and 2) drill holes in it.
It is yours, at least for now, do what you will.

This is off subject and I apologize, but what tires to you have on your front wheels? Brand and size?

I like the idea of the box there, but don't know if I like the door opening horizontally, but it depends on how many tools you plan on putting in there.

I agree with Coy about the welding part on the ROPS. Safety still needs to be a factor.

It will probably be fine, and you hope it's never tested. But me personally I just won't take that chance. That's why I connected mine with u bolts, that go AROUND the tube and not though it.

I can totally agree with hope it is never tested. But how will you feel for the rest of your life if it is your child or grandchild that test it and it fails at the weld you made or hole you drilled?
Personally, it just is not worth the risk even for someone I never knew to test it!

The tires are Duro Frontiers AT25-8R12. Actually, the toolbox is loaded down with a complete socket set, 10-inch crescent wrench, 2lb drilling hammer, channel locks, several Stanley oddball wrenches, screwdrivers, linch pins, top link pin and some other stuff I don't remember off hand. I had doubts about the vertical mounting...it's not my favorite approach, but if I open it slowly, I haven't seen anything that looked ready to fall out. (full disclosure...I live in North Florida, about 8 miles from the Gulf...it's really flat on my property)

I saw both threads, but somehow I thought this was the thread where a member mentioned using the Harbor Freight magnets. The magnets that I used are actually very strong. If the location were level, I could have probably only used one--strengthwise. Two of them are very strong...I just went out and, for yucks really leaned into it...it didn't budge. (okay, I'm about 175 lbs...so my leaning might not be the same as others!) To remove it, I sort of have to "peel" it off, breaking the contact with one magnet first and then the other...and I like the fact that they are molded entirely in rubber. I would expect that their designed use, for light bars on off-road vehicles, would demand a pretty fair amount of "cling". I think it would do fine on the FEL arm...the magnets were not expensive ($15/pr, when I got them a month or so ago--they are $26 now, but I expect they will drop back down--typical Amazon)

I also want to thank all of the members for their insight on all things Yanmar in particular and tractors in general...I have learned a lot just browsing through the threads.
