Why do you think this is? The shape? The shanks on the field cultivator appear to be a bit longer than the ones on the ROBB. I have a RO720 ROBB.

Five parabolic shanks on Field Cultivator are 1/2" width; area of point 20.3 square inches.

Five angled shanks on ROBB are 5/8" width; area of point 6.6 square inches.

Field Cultivator has easily perceived LESS draft resistance. It has to be the parabolic shape.

bcp's attachment in Post #40 contradicts my experience.

This afternoon I used the Field Cultivator to drag out wild grape vines and a few wild roses, growing from near the base of native Water Oaks up the trunks and into the crowns. Water Oak roots grow straight down into the soil, so I could back the Field Cultivator up against the Oak's trunk, lower the implement and PULL. Tractor was in HST/LOW. It pulled easily, however I made the right decision in selecting a five shank model rather than a seven shank model, both of which utilize the same 66" X 2-1/2" X 2-1/2" angle iron frame.

At the end of a pull, when the Three Point Hitch is lifted, the Field Cultivator self cleans reliably.

The engaged five shank Field Cultivator pulls easily, relative to my five shank Rollover Box Blade, with shanks down. With parabolic shaped tines the sharp, pointed chisel point is oriented almost horizontally when the Field Cultivator is being pulled through soil. See Photo #2

Parabolic tines "cup" spreading, shallow vine roots quite well, so the implement can drag unwanted vegetation out of the soil.

Photo #1 - Photo #4 Dirt Dog APP pulling wild grape vines from woods soil.

Photo #5 - Photo #6 Consolidated vines being dragged to community burn pile. Points are 2" above ground, Top Length is long in order to orient points upward slightly, to grip vines. Vines so 'hooked' can be dragged long distances with hardly any loss ~~~ as a bonus you get a clean swept trail.

Mr. Jeff9366 I noticed in one of your older photos, it appears you have a Hydraulink top link; may I ask what you think of it?

Jeff, I was so impressed with your 'Dirt Dog' that I tried to order the 3-shank online, but there was no shipping option for my area. Meh, I'll call the Co and/or whatever distributor they recommend. I don't expect that shipping would cost that much from Ohio or Indiana, but I just 'gotta' have that.

I plan to begin with a sub-soiler thru some areas that are a bit rocky (shaker pile remnants) and full of autumn olive of all sizes to bring up sprouts and roots spreading from those dug up with the Mini-BH. There are grapes and honeysuckle to deal with, too. I want to have something besides just a landscape rake to 'clear off' if things get 'stringy'.

I sure appreciate the thread, the topic, and the tool tip. Thanks! jon

Woods soil is soft. The Field Cultivator penetrates and pulls vines and corms from wood's soil easily.

In contrast, when I have pulled the Field Cultivator in hoof-packed pasture, points break fairly regularly. So primary cultivation in pasture or rocky ground, with a plow, subsoiler or something similar is advised, which you are already considering.

I have Honeysuckle too. The Field Cultivator pulls it up but in Florida it still requires an application of 2-4D herbicide six weeks later to kill all of it.

Iowa Farm Equipment, Tipton, Iowa is a Dirt Dog distributor, with active internet sales. I have ordered several implements from IFE, Iowa--->Florida. Customer service has been excellent: Chisel Plows

Everytfhingattachments.com sells a Field Cultivator almost identical to the Dirt Dog:
LINK: We have top reviewed Tractor 3 Point Single Row Cultivators, Field Cultivators & Rippers, Garden and Field Cultivators For Tractors from Everything Attachments, King Kutter and Fred Cain Farm Equipment, Made in USA Free Shipping within 1,000 miles ETA has a Field Cultivator VIDEO with their descriptions.

Here is my review of the Dirt Dog APP, which has more information:
