Apparently, the EA grapple has 3/8" hoses and 1/2" couplers. EA will use 3/8" couplers if the customer requests it. I didn't know enough to request it.

"I didn't know enough to request it" - BTDT, anybody who claims they haven't is probably fibbing :D

On the positive side, about the only thing I can think of that the smaller connections/flow WON'T work for might be something that uses a high flow hydraulic motor - otherwise, my philosophy is that even SLOW hydraulics beats the crap outa doing it by hand - I turn 71 next month, so all you young bucks go ahead and argue THAT one  ...Steve

My New Holland Boomer has both. Loader connections are 3/8" and the rear remote is 1/2". All quick connects were factory kits installed by the dealer.

The dealer is going to replace the 1/2" connectors with 3/8". I should have ordered the 3/8" from EA from the beginning, but what did I know? How much is a reasonable cost to swap out the connectors?

I don't think the pioneer/ag quick connects were more than $10 each fleet farm. It's not like they are $50 bobcat flat face connectors :). I would assume the dealer will have some markup. Assuming a reasonable labor rate, I don't imagine it should take a tech a half hour.

If you have a couple wrenches, you could change them yourself as well.

Bumping this, because I have almost the exact same issue with a grapple I just received. It has 1/2 couplers. My tractor is a LS xr4150hc. It has the wr long 3rd function kit installed by the dealer and has 3/8". Can I just change the couplers on the 3rd function? Is it anything hard to do other than just unscrewing the couplers and putting new ones on? Or should I use an adapter and if so can anyone recommend one? Thank

Brian

I wouldnt say that the dealer installed the "wrong" kit.

There dont seem to be a "Standard" for front couplers like there are for rear remotes. You can use whatever you have. Skid steer attachments typically use flat face couplers, and one male, one female on each side so it can only be hooked up one way. Ag kits usually come with some type/size of ag coupler. Which makes it difficult to swap between a skid loader and a tractor without changing couplings on something.

For your tractor, and for a grapple, 3/8" couplers are plenty big. So you can swap the grapple couplers to 3/8. Or you can swap the tractor couplers to 1/2". Or you can make adapters. Dont much matter, and makes no difference at all. Especially if you only have one front attachment that requires hydraulics

I didn't say they installed it wrong, said they used the wr long kit. Below is the grapple I have and yes it's the flat face skid steer style. And the tractor has the 3/8 that come with the wr long kit. What would be the best option for me at this time? I probably only will be using a grapple w/the 3rd function, can't really myself needing anything else at this time. I can't seem to find a 3/8 to 1/2 coupler but I may not be calling it the correct thing.

There really is no answer as to what's "best" is what I am trying to tell you.

There are many ways to do it. None of them wrong. You have a grapple with a pair of couplers.

You have a tractor with a different " series" of couplers.

Buy a set to match the grapple and swap tractor side
Buy a set to match tractor and swap grapple
Make adapters.

No right or wrong, all work just fine.
