More so than a dealer, I would like to see a Designer/Engineer from Deere on here.

I would agree. to have a design/engineer who works for JD on the forum would be a real help especially if he participated. factory guys could be a great help.

Deere is huge. Their big revenue/profits come more from the larger equipment they produce and sell as opposed to the smaller compacts and subcompacts. Go down to your Deere dealer and start to show interest in a new 6000 series and up tractor and you'll see what I mean. Seems to be a factor around here anyway, but I must say the Deere dealerships are better than they were years ago, i.e., more interest and less arrogance.

There are JD dealers that only sell mowers and smaller tractors.

most dealers i have delt with only own a small lawnmower and dont really care too much about the crap they sell. I just bought a 2011 cummins dodge last year and the dealer wanted to walk me throught the truck when it came in. he proceeded to tell me the button on the dash was to give more coolant to the engine when needed when i already knew it was for the exhaust brake. Most dealers are in it for the money and not for interest and certainly wouldnt waste their time on forums. thats my take. cars-trucks to tractors. same thing and result. thats why no delaers here

I don't doubt it -- there are exceptions. But in our region there are NO exclusive Deere small equipment dealers. All of the dealerships around here sell large Deere farming equipment and industrial machines and, oh by the way, they also carry the smaller compact tractors. The only exceptions are places like Lowe's and Home Depot where they sell lawn mowers. The above was also true in upstate New York where I lived and worked for 35 years. Again, I'm sure there are exceptions ....... just saying.

I am here - as much as I can be... The "smaller" equipment is my focus, 5000 Series and below. I am sure that there are (and have heard about many of them here on TBN) dealers that don't care about the "little" stuff, but that is certainly not me. I help as much as I can - not so much trying to promote myself and/or my dealership but just represent JD as best I can.

It would be nice to have a Deere Rep explain a reasonable fix on the MX 6 Rotary Cutter output shaft breaking prematurely. Ken Sweet

Well, they are probably avoiding this thread for sure !!! But seriously there are probably a lot of "lurkers" that are involved at some level of oem dealership work and there seems to be a fair amount of smart and reasonable reply's to a lot of technical issues. A business should and rightly so be very carefull when entering the social media world. Although I don't know if Deere has a policy but I would imagine each and every dealership has some form of a policy limiting how its employees may represent them on the net. Some dealers host their own forums and is probably a smarter move imo than a publicly participating in (although a good and valuable resource) a forum with a typical amount of social communication as opposed to strictly a technical aspect. Just my thoughts hope no one believes I am down on tractorbynet I think it is a good resource but believe many dealers are afraid of this type of interaction where they do not have as much control of the outcome.

ctlguy,

As a longer-term poster on TBN, I've come to appreciate your (and BleedGreen's) comments and perspective. I'm very grateful that you're willing to invest your time and energies towards helping the rest of the buyers, owners and operators better understand both the technical as well as the corporate "ins and outs" of the JD product line.

Recognizing that there isn't anyone here on TBN that can "control the outcome" of a particular discussion (beyond maintaining civility) is vital towards maintaining an environment that is both open and foster's honest debate.

I, for one; can't think of very many people - sales reps, managers, mechanics, market statisticians, and certainly the buying public that enjoys a steady diet of "spin"!

Nah.. most of us really look forward to learning the "straight skinny"! Whether it's the repair history (and inherent failures) of the older, 40 series JD utility tractor's or the corporate reasoning for discontinuing production of the 110TLB.

Regards,

AKfish
