Why do people do this?

The other day I was mowing the a road side ditch that I have mowed for 20 plus years. The bank is not to steep but a little bit of an angle you want to be cautious on it. I was mowing along and all the sudden I felt the lean way over there was a new tile hole there that I couldn't see for the tall grass. Mean while I look up to see my neighbor mowing on the same side of the road that I am on his side of the property line with his front end loader raised way up in the air. I was thinking if hits a tile hole like I did I will have a story for TBN about another tractor roll over. My question is why do people want to mow with a loader in the air like that?

I don't know and don't understand either. I see things everyday that amaze me. For instance, one of my neighbors did have a 50 some odd hp JD that he had the top half of the ROPS off for years. This morning, I noticed that he had a bought a new NH TN. Well, guess what? He has all ready taken the top half off!!!!!!!

The guy prob thought he was going to get a better view ahead of the machine without knowing what the potential safety issues are.

I was probably guilty of the same thing before I read the Operator's Manual. A lot of people never read the manual, many of them probably don't even know where it is 6 months after they buy the tractor.

I would do your neighbor a favor and tell him your story and throw in something about how it probably would have rolled if you had the loader up high. Maybe he will take the hint, maybe not, but if he does roll it at least your conscience will be clear.

Driving the tractor with the loader up high is for good forward visibility...and I'm one guilty person for doing this, or was.

I farm in central Pennsylvania and we have many hills, I got a good "scaring" last year with the bucket up high...almost rolled it, although I'm very religious about wearing a seatbelt.

Sometimes we need the 2 x 4 over the head to understand what safety really means.

Mabey he is not used to a fel or mabey he does not realize how traveling with the Fel high could be a problem. I Really don't knwo why people do some of the things they do. at lot of times folks will put their tractor in gear BEFORE THEY PUT THIE COMMON SENSE IN GEAR.

It would seem to me that traveling with the FEL skimming the ground at just a couple inches higher than the mower.. perhaps with bucket curled up would make a good stump/debri detector.

Witht he bucket curled, you wouldn't dig in if you found a sudden low spot.. etc.

If he doesn't wear a seat belt It really makes no difference if he removes the ROPS.

Guy near me was killed with the ROPS up (no seatbelt)
