Why do people not want to work?

I am blessed to know a few people who work incredibly hard, don't complain about the work, dirt, toxicity, heat, cold, minor injuries or very long hours. They just do what has to be done. Quite the valuable role models for me.

Not particularly smart to work in environment that hurts you or dealing with workplaces that don't take safety serious. You can be quite sure that if you don't care, nobody else do.

If you can't figure out what's safe and what isn't, you have problems..

I did a lot of unsafe things, like cutting firewood with a cord wood saw off the back of a International 350 without a shield for 30 years, I knew all along if I made a mistake I was a dead man.. You need to concentrate and pay attention instead of every five seconds checking the phone for texts and fb posting so that you know what all of you're friends are doing every moment of the day.

It's a screwed up mess..

It's not just the youth either, I had a cop in the hospital parking garage texting walk right into me, I saw it coming and let it happen just so that I could wake him up out of his robotic trance..

If I see someone walking and gazing into their dumbphone, I have to assume that someone very close to them just had a tumor removed from their brain and they are following the results closely. What else could possibly be that important?

I wonder what the average starting pay is for armored truck (door lock check) guards...?

To see what (labor) jobs are with the most risk for injuries...look at what workman's comp. insurance costs for different job classifications in a field...

Buzz saws are not that dangerous, the risk zone are very defined. But work with toxic or other form for unhealthy environment is stupid if you are putting your health on the line. And I have walked away many times when I have been asked to do stupid things so the boss can make more money by risking other people's healt, but they always find a young guy or a guest worker to do it.

I certainly would not risk my health for the profit of a company. Although working as an electrical apprentice in the 80s was told to do many dangerous things. The people I speak of, mostly work for themselves. And I refer to such (toxic) things as welding fumes, paint fumes and noise.

Sounds like almost half of my day today and I'm retired;
3 hours on the head gate of a squeeze chute, filling syringes, working on yearlings, in 90+ temps and high humidity,
inside the barn and the ammonia smell from the fresh manure was strong this afternoon.
It was nice to get outside into the fresh air and breeze to put them back out on pasture.
