* Not when MTD didn't correct the problem with the engine.
Makes me wonder if MTD wasn't using defective or second rate engines.

KOHLER engines are available on many MTD products. Maybe you should go and see for yourself. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Gerard

Gerald has a point. The engine is not the fault of the manufacturer.

I had very good luck with older Briggs engines (early 90's). I had horrible luck with Briggs engines up from around 95 - 2002. I just got a Bolens tiller from Lowes with a 6.5 horse Briggs and have had nothing but good luck from the engine. My point? All engine manufacturers have good designs and bad ones.

Learn about the engine before buying the equipment. It's that simple.

* I disagree: MTD sells the tractor they owe the customor the performance.
It's called implied warranty.

*Not Quite as there is the fitness for intended purpose thing.

Over the weekend we had my Aunt and Uncle over for Easter. Parked in our driveway was an $83,000+ Mercedes-Benz that he purchased only 6 months ago. When they were leaving we noticed a bubble the vertical length of the sidewall from the rim to the tread on the front passenger side that stuck out about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Does that make the/a Mercedes-Benz JUNK?????? Please.

I have a 10 yr old MTD self propelled walk behind that is down right now because my wife loaned it to a cousin and he bent the crank on a stump. So I guess MTD's are junk.
BTW the deck has ZERO rust after 10 years, looks to be powdercoated. I did have to replace the drive chain once, but have done nothing else to it except a few oil changes. I am going to put a new crank in it and use it for at least 5 more years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
This mower lived in Tampa Florida for 7 years multching that tough viney stuff they call grass down there twice a week for most of the year.
I even bought another MTD self propelled walk behind last year when the crank got bent on my old one.

Things like that can happen to ANY machine.

I also have a self propelled MTD that's going on about 4 years. I've never had any problems with it. As with yours there is no rust, starts on the first or second pull and I'm sure I'll have it another 10 years.
