Why does everyone rant and rave about the EcoBoost?

I don't think it's that I'm not aware of the pluses of ethanol in some applications. E85 won't work in anything I own and I don't want it forced on me by the stuffed shirts in D.C.

That would be news to me. I have not ever heard of E85 even being proposed as a mandate for anyone. Not sure then why that would be an issue here. But if you know of a E85 mandate that is being proposed, please, don't hold out, provide a link.

I didn't say there was. I said I didn't want the D.C. crowd telling me what kind of fuel I need to use. But, enough from me. Neither of us will change the other's mind.

How does all this talk about E85 have anything to do with the Ecoboost?

Yes, let's get back to it. I for one was surprised to learn that the 2015 ecoboost only costs about $500 more than the 5.0 that I currently drive, so I am DEFINITELY going ecoboost next year, when I get a new F150.:cool2:

It has quite a bit to do (or not) with the ecoboost motor. THe ecoboost was not designed to burn ethanol. That is part of the reason to i started this thread, was too see if any one got a 5.0 over the eco-boost for ethanol purposes, or not. IMO if they designed A ecoboost to burn ethanol (especially a 5l or 6.2l ecoboost) that would be champ.

So how many people chose the 5.0 over the eco-boost for ethanol purposes?

7. Wait, maybe it was 8...in the whole US.

Seriously, though, I think the only real reason flex fuel vehicles are offered is for fleets, specifically government fleets. Many have mandatory numbers of 'green' vehicles they have to add to their fleet. If you don't have a flex fuel vehicle, you don't qualify. That and manufacturers get special CAFE credits if the vehicle will burn E85 as well.

I was in Mount Rainier National Park and saw Ranger Chevrolet Volts parked next to the pickup trucks...

I asked and learned they had to take them and they done get used very much... lots of uphill and cold winter weather in the park... but, the fleet is Green.

.

Well surprise. I purchased 2 of them, 5.0 just for E85. I think that I know the other 6. Also, can you please quote your source ?

I did just that, twice. I will not purchase a new vehicle that is not E85. I hope that you own a FFV also !

Terry my point stands, as it is based on physics. There is not the same energy content in E85 as in straight gas (or 10% ethanol gas) - E85 is significantly lower. I live in an area that is big on this and can easily find E85 pumps if I want. Heck a station I frequent just put them in in the past few weeks, and 2 others I often use have them. And I was very intrigued when it first came out several years ago - my eyes are open - But I can also do math. And when you look at how much you lose in mileage vs the cost differential, you realize that it will cost you more per mile to run E85 in a car that can take regular gas. The price differential is not significant enough to make up for the loss in energy content per gallon. Net loser. And I shudder to think how much of the actual price differential is due to government subsidies. That makes it even worse, IMO.

And none of this changes the fact that you are hiljacking threads over this issue all over the place on TBN. Please cut it out. Beyond an initial mention you are into shill land, frankly.

I wouldn't drive 50 miles out of the way to fill up with E85 even if it was free. Why don't you put some of that good ethanol in your small engines and see how that works out. Heck, if it is that good put it in your diesel tractor too.
