I have a 2001 Ford Edge, it a pickup truck. Now they have an Edge that's an SUV.
I still have my 1970 Maverick, it's a two door car. Now they have a Maverick that's a pickup truck.
If I got any of the above wrong, it's because I'm confused.

How hard can it be to think of a different name for a different vehicle?
I hope they don't come out with a new Trimotor that's a blimp.

No original thought I guess. They are also re-making old tv shows and movies.

That’s nothing. Ford changes the name of the SAME car several times also. There was the Taurus, which became the Ford 500, then it changed back to the Taurus!

Because trucks don't need to conform to CAFE emissions standards, so everything that could be labeled a truck, was labeled a truck. Now that loophole has been closed so now you have a car.

IT aint just fords or automobiles.

What about a deere 830. Is that the 1960 8000lb ~80hp machine or the 1975 4000lb ~40hp utility?
Or the deere 4010. Is that the 1960's ~90hp precursor to the infamous 4020 or is it the more modern yanmar clone sub-compact?
Same with the 4320 and 4520's. Are they the 1970's 130HP beasts or the modern 4000-series compact tractors?

My brother really likes that updated “McGyver”, I’m not sure why.. I always thought the original one was a stretch.

To the OP; the worst travesty was the ‘78 to ‘83 Challenger. It was a disgrace to the name Mopar, never mind the original Challenger namesake.

I keep wondering when they’re going to bring back the Pinto and the Vega. :D

I enjoyed the Pinto. Cheap, economical and fun to drive. They could have easily fixed the gas tank problem like they allowed Jeep to do. They added a receiver hitch as a recall and problem fixed!

The running gear was tough as nails! A couple of my HS friends had Pintos and beat the snot out of them. That was the beginning of our love affair with Japanese autos though, for some it was just an excuse to bash US iron.

Car names are "brands" and the accountants give them a value then once it has a value there must be a return on that value
my guess there is Brand recognition associated with the name that they want to capture

Hopefully never. I hope that Ford is still embarrassed by those vehicles.

Then there was the Mustang II, basically a (somewhat) sporty-looking Pinto. Collectable today, but not a worthy successor to the original.

Agree that the original McGyver was kind of corny, but at least you could count on him making something useful out of an odd assortment of items (all of which were conveniently on hand). The reboot kind of got off track quickly.

Well there never was a love affair with Japanese autos for this boy. 🙄
My first wife (RIP) had a '75 Pinto, wasn't a bad car. Felt a lot more solid than any of the Japanese cars of the day, and didn't rust out anywhere near as quickly. I agree the gas tank issue was overblown. As I recall most other econoboxes of the era had the same problem, and IIRC it came out in court during the famous trial that the driver had left the gas cap off.
Sure would hate to have been in a front end collision in an old VW with the gas tank in the front.

Never knew Ford ever built a pickup called the Edge.

Ford ran out of letters a long time ago and started again at the top of the alphabet using Model A again in 1927.

Deere 110 is confusing… lawn mower or small commercial TLB?

New name is supposed to be 'new and improved' when in fact it's same old stuff and new and improved denotes a higher price too.

Is there any pattern to JD model #s? My first tractor was a JD750, there was a 650 that was the same thing with a smaller engine, but I've never noticed any other pattern on their products.
