Yeah, unlike the 6.2 Ecotec in the 1/2 tons, the 6.6 coming out is a working motor. It does have DI, but not the goofy AFM cylinder shutdown nonsense that the 1/2 ton pickups have. And has been stated, a lower compression so premium fuel is not required for optimal performance. There is not enough there to cause me to get rid of the Chevy 2015 2500 6.0 I have now. Besides, I would never by a new production engine. Let everyone else be a guinea pig until all the bugs are worked out.
One aspect to the new GM medium duty trucks coming out that I do think is long overdue in HD pickups.... clamshell hoods like semi trucks making access to engine far easier for maintenance. There are several other features that are pretty well thought out. If I was in the market for a medium duty, I would consider one of the new GM 4500/5500 series. Lots of build options available.
