Why TBN isn't as enjoyable anymore

Other than Post Moderation previously mentioned, how about letting Thread Starters moderate their own threads. Let them clean up their own.

I only see 6 Moderators listed and at least one of them hasn't been active in a couple of years. I see 7 Admins listed, 4 of which I've never seen post and one only does Welcomes. I'm guessing the others are test accounts or handle software changes and updates.

Some of the Spam threads sit for hours before anyone acts.

It needs to be something that humans dont need to spend hours looking at. TBN is free to us. We cant expect a solution that requires the owners to spend time or capital if we arent paying for it.



What about levels of bans?

Allow the OP to initiate a community ban request. If X # of people that already posted in that thread vote for said ban, then the individual gets a ban.
1st offense = level 1 ban.

Level 1 maybe 24 hours.
Level 2 maybe 1 week
Level 3 maybe 1 month
Level 4 maybe 1 year
Level 5 permanent.

I do realize it wont help with spam posts (as the OP is the spammer) but it will help with the main focus of this discussion

The thread I started about the Amish is with the intent of discussing their culture and work ethic and how we interact with them as our neighbors without getting into their belief system.

Perhaps state that in the OP. Don稚 leave it open to interpretation.

I also think this goes to my post #102 above. If you didnt like the direction something was headed as the OP, you could initiate a ban request for a troublesome individual. Other folks that posted in that thread could vote on it if threshold is met, poster is banned.

My takeaway from all these post are
1) Many posters (including myself) in this thread would probably be penalized by 1 or more of the rules that are being suggested.
2) Some posters in this thread would be well on their way to being banned
3) My guess is that Mohammad is regretting re opening this thread
4) He may even have a headache after reading them
5) Most of you will probably regret what you wished for in this thread if it comes to fruition!

That is a very good idea. Allow the OP to oversee the their thread content and 'prune' accordingly. I really like that. Prune to the point of removing offending or off subject comments, not removing any poster from the site.

Not sure about this platform, but with some forums platforms, it's as simple as a check box in the Admin Configuration area, with no real change to member permissions.

OPs able to moderate their own threads would take some of that burden off Staff.

Piney, please take your unfiltered racism where it's invited. That you'd labor us with your social & political beliefs ever included if not motivation to post is indeed free speech, but could we as adults let someone else's rules prevail in their place? (What are you like in churches, Casinos, airports, etc?)

IMO TBN might be more enjoyable if some people just stayed in their bunkers, parapets, turrets or towers, not that anyone in particular comes to mind. Well not that many ..

The true racists and their ilk are the ones that turn truths and facts into something they're not and were not intended to be...that ilk is simply too blind to see...a shame and a big part of what is wrong with America and is close to the root of the lack of bipartisanship and the polarization of the nation...

So Herman Cain doesn't know who his heroes are? Jayz (sp) doesn't either? Justice Thomas? They're African American and you mentioned a broad group in an unkind way that IMO went pretty far in 'casually' (..!) stereotyping all African Americans. It was also hardly in context with the spirit of the thread, supposedly to hear good vs petty things such as our fishing game. I have been wondering if something like that could be done. I'm all for it. What ever you come up with, I'm sure will be fine with me.
It is, after-all, your forum. But I hope banishment is a tool seldom used. It is good to read about how others view the world especially when their view is the opposite of your own.
Kind of like the old saying.... "keep your friends close and your enemies closer".
