Moss Road a few posts back revealed that the mods know of a handful of bad actors and nothing is done. That is the problem

When you have a problem and do nothing to solve it, it rarely improves.

So the "fault/responsibility" lies with Muhammad. If that gets me banned, so be it....but it is so obvious. An undisciplined child is the fault of the parents.

I suggest a conference call with the Mods and the site owner(s) to formulate a plan. You do not let the inmates run the asylum.

Like you, I thought that post was very revealing also.

So basically they can do whatever they want (and will do) with the only consequence being a merely closed thread. That's not much of a punishment, isn't it?

I agree with the strike system mentioned before. 3 strikes for the regular members and 1 strike with perma ban for the "keyboard heroes" since they've been causing enough troubles over the years don't need another 3 chances honestly.

Would be nice if all of you spelled his name correctly... Muhammad Christi works well. We talk regularly and from what I glean from those conversations, he's a pretty laid back individual and as such, he decides what and how his moderators moderate and what the various thresholds are for poster removal or locked threads. He is the boss after all and he decides ultimately.

For him to open this thread back up, tells me he's looking for input before deciding on what exactly he wants to institute as far as policing threads and posters.

So, rather than criticize provide constructive input. I'm sure he's reading along.............................

That don't work. To institute ANY policy, you have to start at square one. If you have the time go visit the 'Friendly Politics' forum, TNT, and read the 'rules' of engagement there. They are applied without prejudice and they are working quite well.

If Mr. Christi decides to use the same format here, so be it but again, that is his prerogative but again, you have to start at square one with everyone on equal footing. You cannot discriminate. Being arbitrary don't work.

I think a fair majority of people on the forum bear a level of responsibility, I am quite sure I do.

Even some of my favorite posters have :stirthepot: on more than an occasion.

Mohammad is not going to cut off his nose to spite his face, his choice of "10" incidents tell us that.

His site is an awesome site, but it is nothing without people populating it creating "hits".

I am not sure what the answer is, I know I strive to do better, but then there is the "post police" that try to control everything, or the "self righteous" who thinks their poop dont stink. Or the incessant poster who has been on the site for a year and has more posts than 50% of us who have been here decades.

It truly amazes me as I read through the postings, how many people have commented and see "other" people violations, and how the "other" people may be on Moss's list but never even consider, they may be on said list!

They are making money on it the site, and they wish to continue making money on the site. That is why they don't want the site to go to ..... If the ad revenue is pulled by the advertisers, because we are bunch of heathen monkey feces throwers, then they lose their revenue. In almost any endeavor, you can just follow the money.

Every public forum depends on advertising to offset the costs of operation. I park a .com website myself but it's for the sale of the products I make and sell worldwide so I don't need advertisers and don't want any.

People loose sight of the fact that hosting a forum isn't free. It might be free to post on them but the backend isn't free. Far from it.

Editing posts to remove violating content isn't that difficult or time consuming (if done more in real time) and it would send as much of a message as anything else. Again, there are only five Mods that are at all active and they seem to be busy with other things, so not able to devote much time here. When threads are more active than the Mods, things can snowball quickly and become too much to shovel. Some of us that have more time could volunteer (and have) to take some of the load to nip things in the bud.

Fixed it for you. People need to spell his name correctly or just refer to him as 'Mr. Christi'. I'd not want to have my name misspelled, I don't believe he does either............

It must have been a typo, I generally spell it correctly

But honestly I really doubt he is that vain about his name being spelled correctly that needs to have a poster publicly shamed so as to cause more derision on the site.

That is the stuff that starts the ball rolling that HE is trying to stop

Once again, its ALL of us causing issues!

Eh? Violating Content...Time consuming? I think your on the wrong end of the spectrum. You have to constantly fish for posts to peruse and then apply context to them. Sounds like a job for AI. Or some filtering software with better keyword manglement.

Yes, everyone should spell his name correctly, including you. He may even take offence the way you spelled his last name.

It's Chishti.

Reported posts go into a queue and all Mods are alerted and have access to that. If a Mod is online and gets the alert, the post can be edited or deleted almost immediately. If no Mod is online and a number of people start reporting things, the queue can build up as Moss said.and be much harder to weed through.

Filtering is also built into the platform software so offending words or phrases are replaced with **** automatically. The word censor file is probably limited to Admins though.

Shamed for a common typo? C'mon, I agree that it's all of us in turn, hardly just you, friend. :)

Too many 'balls rolling' over thin skin & causing hurt feelings? I've been on both sides of that! .. You?

btw, if *** was ***** then maybe the ******** would feel a lot better about ***** like me. (Guess one filter is working.)

There is one guy who scans every one of my posts to report..... so yes

MEE TOO!

That's reported. I don't report, and yet a vast majority on the Political forum was in violation. Perhaps the moderators just looked the other way.

I say - Follow the Rules. Don't post derogatory content or personally attack others. You don't follow those rules, you get a strike. And it's with you...forever.
10 strikes and your out.

Good luck I say, finding the happy medium.

Not really, you want someone to bugger your legal name on a publicly viewed forum? I don't, don't think you do either. Has to do with respect and respect is sadly lacking in today's society.

You really need to curb the expletives. You can communicate just as well without them...................I think.
